Upgrading an excellent RB to a very good Cushion

We've been married 8 amazing years and I modified my RB solitaire pave band to include a cushion halo. I love the look, and my husband said in 8 years I could do another upgrade. He prefers the look of a solitaire on a pave band (as do I), and the halo was just a way to make my current diamond look bigger. I did a search on Pricescope for a diamond with my specs - 0.71, VVS1, F, excellent cut), and the cost range was 3-4 K...the same pricing as my search for a 1 - 1.20, G, VS1-VS2 cushion! I know cushions tend to look smaller than RBs...but am I missing something here? Can I sell my current diamond and upgrade sooner than I think? The cost of a new ring wouldn't be a big deal as my new setting leveraged the diamonds from my previous setting, so the only cost was to create the new setting along with the new pave diamond halo. I would like the cushion to look bigger than my current Round Brilliant...not much larger but I want it to look similar to a 1 carat RB, since the new setting doesn't have a halo.

The prices you searched for a stone similar to your current one would be vendor pricing...that's not what you would get for it if you sold it, unless you happened to purchase it from a place that had a 100% value upgrade/trade in policy. Since cushions face up smaller than rounds, so you would need approximately 1.25ct cushion to face up similar to a 1ct round, assuming they are both excellent cut and other similar specs.

Do you have a budget in mind for your upgrade?

That's very helpful thank you! No budget in mind...if it was a direct swap of diamonds it'd be a no brainer as the setting would be $1600 ish or less (as my current halo setting cost me that much). Guess I should talk to a diamond seller to discuss.

It would not in any way be worth trading up to a 1.0-1.2 ct cushion to me. Not enough size difference since they are deeper and face up smaller than rounds. Wait and make it count and trade up to at least a 1.5 ct cushion.

I think you're right, based on the research I'd have to get a 1.5 cushion to simulate a 1 carat round (all things being equal, and being of excellent cut and quality). I'm a ring size 4.25...so I think a 1.5 cushion would look significantly bigger than my current 0.70.
