Upgraded e-ring, now what to do with original/tension set info

Hello,
My husband and I are considering upgrading my engagement ring. I''m attached to my current ring and do still like it, but I''m not sure what to do with it when/if we upgrade. Any suggestions on what is typically done?

Also, we are considering a marquise shaped 1 carat stone with a tension setting. Is the tension setting popular? How well does it hold up under daily wear?

Any help would be appreciated.
