Hey everyone. I want to thank you all for helping me with this decision. Here is the original post if your memory is a little shaky:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/help-did-i-overpay-for-this.86692/
So here''s the update: I just got back from the jeweler and he was able to exchange my diamond, which was an 0.81ct, G, SI1, GIA VG cut, HCA 5.6 for (are you ready for this) an 0.82 ct, D, eye clean SI2, GIA Ex cut, HCA 2.7, AT NO EXTRA CHARGE! So I upgraded 3 of the 4 C''s for the same price. That means one of two things: 1) I got ripped off the first time (which is the most likely) or 2) He just got a great deal on that stone. Either way, I ended up with a much better stone and one I can be proud to present to my gf when I give it her, which is all that matters to me. I don''t have the cert in front of me because the ring is getting set, but I''ll have it early next week and post all of the dimensions.
I score one for B&M jewelers because in my opinion, it was great working with Bill and Apryl at my local store and they were very accomodating. They sat with me for over two hours just looking at different stones they had found for me and it was great to be able to see all of the stones side by side. I know most of you have no problem buying diamonds online, but this was such a big purchase for me (the second most expensive thing I''ve ever bought; the first was my car), that I couldn''t buy a diamond sight unseen. It also restored my faith in B&M jewelers. I''ve seen I don''t know how many posts here who have had terrible experiences with B&M shops, but mine could not have been more positive. They helped me through every step of the process and even though I didn''t get the right diamond the first time, they made up for it spectacularly. So for those of you who are down on B&M shops, hopefully my experience will give you some more confidence in them. My advice after this ordeal is to just be honest and don''t be afraid to ask questions or say no. Again, thanks to everybody here for all of your help. I really appreciate and I will try to pass on everything I''ve learned to the newbies (even though I''m technically still a newbie!).
