that''s not even the same comparison. They already ate and weren''t really hungry. If a child really is hungry, you''re not going to feed yourself and deny them food. I''ll give my son a drink before I have one if he is thirsty. There''s a difference between actual needs and wants.Date: 6/23/2009 1:17:15 PM

I agree there may be more to that video clip than we saw. Who knows.
I understand how sometimes parents have things children can''t. I''m not going to give my kid a glass of wine just because I have one. But to deny your child WATER and then drink it in front of them, is the equivalent of having them say they''re hungry, denying them food, and then chowing down on a sandwich in front of them. I don''t see any situation where that is ok with me.
Everyone should have waited until the interview was over, including Kate, in my opinion.
I guess you would find me wrong when I haven''t eaten all morning (3 kids have been fed breakfast and late morning fruit) and I''m finally able to stuff some food in me at around 11am for the first time for that day....it always seems that when I''m shaking from hunger, my kids (who have been fed) come and say I''M HUNGRY..for a snack mostly. You know what I tell them? I tell them NO..they have to wait until I finish eating. I tell them they have eaten and mommy has to eat. YES I chow down on whatever is in my hand. They need to know that they can ask for something but also have to be prepared to wait for whatever they want. It won''t always be this instant gratification in my home.![]()

How do you know that Mady was really thirsty and not just saying it b/c she saw the bottle of water handy? Is is possible all the kids had drinks on they way over or stopped by a water fountain during a potty break and mady was just whining for more? Kate has done some stuff I don''t agree with, but I think this particular situation got blown way out of proportion.
correct, but what if she really was thirsty? It''s ok for a thirsty child to go without water while she has to watch her mother drink? I don''t think there will be any agreement on this. Different opinions is all. I respect yours.Date: 6/23/2009 1:36:24 PM

Jon and Kate +8 on vacation until August.
This isn''t a surprise either...
Ditto. But Kate also mentioned at one point that divorce rates are much higher, double or more, in families with multples. I can only imagine.Date: 6/23/2009 1:00:56 PM

Question: was there problems with their marriage before the show began or did all the fame, etc., create more marital problems than can be solved?
MC, my guess is that there were problems b/f the show, they just became more apparent and I''m sure the constant camera''s and fame and fortune didn''t help.
I watched it a lot a couple of years ago but then stopped b/c my life is just too busy, plus I have to listen to my own kids all day long and don''t want to waste and hour of free time watching some other kids argue..etc. the whole thing makes me really sad though. I always thought Jon was passive and weak and not strong enough for a woman like Kate. She''s controlling by nature and the less he did the more she took over. I did watch last night and Jon came across as a total Jerk to me. I know Kate has equal blame in the failed marriage but his attitude was awful. I read today that is was actually Kate who filed the papers yesterday. I think she would have worked on the marriage if Jon would have been willing and honestly he needs to grow up and get over the mid-life crisis. They said the show is stopping production until Aug. in order to give the family some space and figure out exactly what they are going to do/film etc. I won''t be watching though...
Wow. This takes the cake. I never really watched this show, I thought it was wrong, on many levels. But this? This shows just how utterly selfish both the parents were.Date: 6/23/2009 8:53:46 AM

It took BOTH of them for this marraige to dissolve. Was Kate a hardass? YES! Unneccessarily rude towards Jon? God yes. But on the flip side, Jon just took the orders Kate threw at him for years. He said in last nights episode that he took her crap for years and now he's not. So he finally found his b@lls but then decided to leave with them?
J&K are under contract for season 5 so they both have to participate. Jon wouldn't walk away anyway, because as much as he complains, the show has given them a huge home, his new condo in Utah for skiing, free clothes for the whole fmaily, free vacations, new cars, a new apartment for Jon (or even a 2nd? Where will Kate stay when Jon is at the house during his visitation days?), and perks for the kids. I guarantee there will be a 6th season simply because they are so dependant on the show to continue the lifestyle they now have. Kate will probably write a couple of more books.
Another reason why there will be a 6th season (and that may be the last season) is because J&K did NOT put the sextuplets in kindergarten this year even though they are 5 years old now. Why? Kindergarten is Mon-Fri, possibly all day, which cuts into doing the show. They aren't going to get much footage taping on just weekends and evenings.
And as a mom to 3 kids, I feel bad that the Gosselin kids aren't enrolled in activity like soccer/tball/ballet, etc. My guess is, that 'normal' part of childhood won't happen for them (if at all) until the show is over.
I agree with you Miss Ellen. Can''t say I am shocked, but thats just awful!!!!Date: 6/23/2009 3:14:06 PM

I missed the episode but read up on it. I hate to say it but the show is entertaining and it''s easy to forget it''s real people involved! However, the kids will have a better life financially than they ever would possibly been able to dream of without this show. Not to mention I''m not sure how they would have even managed physically with 8 kids and no help (or just part-time help with their incomes). So I think we should acknowledgt the other side, which is the advantages they have had due to the media attention.
As for Jon..this is unfortunately very predictable! Beaten down husband gets lots of $$ and attention from women (due to show) and he''s suddenly adrenalized and wants to go out and live in NYC, go to red carpet events, and live it up! Seems like he''d like to drop the kids except for an episode here and there. His ''fame'' will dry up fast, but I''m afraid many men would be tempted by it all. And Kate''s not doing too shabby either..$, career, and lots of help with 8 little ones. I think the kids seem remarkably normal considering, and it''s great that they have each other at the very least...
I agree. If they have been living apart for 2 years we've been lied to by not only them but really by TLC, since they are presenting us with a "reality" show. This undermines all their shows. Any one of them could be fakes.Date: 6/24/2009 11:07:58 AM

I interpreted Jon's comment about being excited more as a statement about his being able to not have to live a lie regarding his relationship with Kate and not about his life without his kids. I actually don't think his life with his kids will change much from what it already was. Like I said, I think they've been living a shared custody arrangement with the kids for a while. I think I heard somewhere that Kate stated in the divorce papers that they've been separated for two years now. I could have misheard though.
Personally, I think both of them are screwed up. I think they're both equally to blame for their marriage falling apart. However, I really am disgusted with the way Kate tries to get everyone to be on her side in a passive aggressive way. I would have much more respect for her if she just said, 'I think it's Jon's fault. I think he did me wrong.' Instead, she makes veiled comments like she's got a moral high ground to stand on. I also wish she would quit saying she wants to keep things private for the sake of the kids and then the very next day you see that she's given an exclusive interview to People magazine. I wish if she's going to say something she would just say she's going to spill the beans to People instead of pretending like she's keeping things private like she should be doing. They should both just shut up and work out the divorce privately. That's what would be in the best interest of the children.
I think it has more to do with the division of assets and alimony. I do believe they''ve been separated for longer than they''ll admit to. I think the key to a quick divorce is the way the two of them handle it not whether or not she says they''ve been separated for two years. I think that just gives them something else to fight over if Jon wants to dispute the date of separation. Even if they have been separated for two years, there are plenty of things that could drag it out.Date: 6/24/2009 1:42:39 PM

Apparently at the suggestion of her attorney, Kate said whatever she had to to ensure a quick divorce, including checking a box that said they had been separated for two years. They really haven''t.
I just read a report that now his new gf may be appearing on the show in the next season. I realize she''s a part of his life, but I feel like this is just another ploy for publicity and for him to extend his 15 minutes of fame. I really could care less about his gf and their relationship and I don''t want to watch the kids have to interact with her and deal with that during an already difficult time. Not that I''m planning on watching next season...
In many states, 10 years or longer is considered a long term marriage and if you are married longer than 10 years, it becomes more expensive for the wealtheir spouse to get out of the marriage. That could be another reason why she checked they have been seperated for 2 years. They just passed their 10 year anniversary and she wanted to make it clear that the were not a couple as of that date.Date: 6/24/2009 1:58:17 PM

No, the ''tups started preschool Fall ''08. They turned 5 this past May. the sextuplets were born in May of 2004...why would they have started Kindergarten last fall? At the age of 4yr? I don''t think so. They should be starting K this fall. Maybe it was PRE-K they didn''t have them start. If that''s the case many ppl don''t send their kids to Pre-K (I did but many ppl I know don''t)

If that gf appears in the show, that will show that TLC is willing to do ANYTHING for ratings. I think I will boycott that channel at that point.
