Hi there,

I am looking for some help. I have this, what I think is some sort of pin. It looks to be old and gold and very good quality and it features an intricate plant in a pot behind sort of bars going all the way around. The pin doesn't have a sharp point and the pin section screws off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

It measures 4.5" and has no marks

thanks, Andy

Anyone any ideas?

Would appreciate any help on this.

Thanks, Andy

I can't figure out what this thing is.
If it's not sharp, then maybe it isn't meant for piercing fabric.
It could be a laying tool for needlework/cross stitch, or some other craft.

My thought was that it might be used for a loosely knot or woven fabric, like what one might use in a shaw. But a search for "antique shawl pin" didn't yield any result that look like the business end of your example. Whatever it is, it's fascinating!

GREAT THOUGHT!

Possibly a bodkin, which is used to thread ribbon, elastic, etc. through lace or through a tube? The interchangeable top could have allowed the use of smaller heads for narrower openings.

Thank you so much for your help everyone, It would be so much easier if it had some marks somewhere. I will try and look into your suggestions.

Thanks again,

Andy
