Unset CBI and Brian Gavin MRBs -- should I set before selling?

I'm considering selling two loose diamonds: a CBI and a Brian Gavin H&A. The CBI is 1.178 carat, I/SI1 per AGS and J/SI1 per GIA and GCAL (AGS 104110801004; GIA 7371895687; GCAL 310220078), and the BG is .983 carat, F/SI1 (AGS 104112416005). Both are eye-clean and as perfect as you'd expect from CBI and Brian Gavin, and neither has ever been set. All certificates included, of course.

If you were in my position, would you have them set in a simple solitaire or pendant setting before selling, or would you sell them as they are (loose, in their original boxes)? What would be more attractive to potential buyers?

Thanks, all. My sweet puppy has had two emergency neurosurgeries since mid-September, plus one emergency spay, and those unexpected vet bills are hefty, even with pet insurance.

IMO I would sell them loose because no buyer will be turned off by a ring design, or a ring size, they don't want.

It is not easy or fast for a private party to sell a diamond, so why limit your buyers?

Hi, I have no idea what her specs were, but @autumngems was definitely looking for a CBI in her recent post.

Totally sell loose. Many times I pass on things because they are the wrong color gold, wrong size or a style I don’t like.

Multiplitto to selling loose. In addition to setting choice being viewed as either limiting or a needless extra expense, no need for you to take on additional risk of damage during setting - minuscule as that may be!

I concur about selling loose with one exception. It depends on your sales venue. Most insurance companies won't insure an unmounted stone and if you're planning on consigning it somewhere, you'll want it insured while you wait for a customer to show up. This may also affect your shipping selections if you sell online.

I agree with PP and don't have much else to add. Just wanted to say I'm so sorry to hear about your puppers. Hope he/she is recovering well.
