It might just be the pictures but the band looks square? If so I would be worried about it hurting her fingers with sharp corners. Also if you are setting the diamond yourself I would take it to a good jeweler afterward and have them look at it just to make sure all is safe and secure. I would think 1mm square is a good thickness for the prongs but again I would have a jeweler check this all out just cause they know.
I must say, my husband personally designed my e-ring and set it with his grandmothers diamond and I'm a little jealous of your hand fabricated, with love, ring.
