Undercover999's Homemade E-ring. Check it Out!

Hey thanks for posting over here! :appl:

This is very, very cool. It's so amazing for me to see the lengths some gentlemen will go for the ering.

very cool.

Looks like you are doing a great job!

I love this idea!! The plastic version looks really great and I love the offset shank! The prongs look substantial without looking bluky and overall the look is elegant and unique. I read your post in rocky talk as well and "OMG sparkles" totally made me laugh! I think 2mm for the shank is a really great width and will compliment the stone well and give your girlfriend the delicate look she wants without compromising strength.

It might just be the pictures but the band looks square? If so I would be worried about it hurting her fingers with sharp corners. Also if you are setting the diamond yourself I would take it to a good jeweler afterward and have them look at it just to make sure all is safe and secure. I would think 1mm square is a good thickness for the prongs but again I would have a jeweler check this all out just cause they know.

I must say, my husband personally designed my e-ring and set it with his grandmothers diamond and I'm a little jealous of your hand fabricated, with love, ring.

Happy Ring Making! :appl:

Thanks for the feedback about my dimensions; thats what I really need.

As for the cross section - yes its square, but I did read some stuff online about comfort fits etc etc so I tried to find a middle ground. The inner edges have been radiused to 0.5mm. It was easier to get a shot in CAD, here is a cross section, look at the bottom:

I actually made an earlier version with a simpler round profile and decided I didn't like it as much; it looked too simple. Plus I know she liked several rings with square-ish cross sections when we'd discussed rings many moons ago. Here is the version I rejected (note I hadn't bought a diamond yet when I did these designs, so the "rock" in these pics is just sorta a guess on my part):

I am *dying* to see the next progression on this. UNBELIEVABLY romantic.

I'm updating my other thread in the Jewelry forum but my test run with some cheap metal went pretty well for a first try...
