Hello,
I am undecided on the carat size of my ring.. I am getting an asscher, my ring size is 6. Should I get a 2 carat or 2.5 carat. I don't want it to look small but not too big. Thanks for your help

I don't think either of those would look too big or too small. Personally if I were buying an asscher diamond I'd want it to face up 7 mm or more for maximum "hall of mirrors" effect, particularly if it had 4 pavillon steps like I prefer. 2ct usually runs in that ballpark depending on the depth, I think. 2.5 seems tougher to find. Try some on or order fakes to test. You may wish to move this thread to Rocky Talky.

You should see examples, preferably in person.
Here (on the right) is my 2.26 ct asscher in a tension setting, on a size 8 finger.

The asscher dimensions are:
Width: 7.38mm
Length: 7.41mm
Depth: 4.96mm

Asschers face up small for their weight, plus you get used to the size, so you may want to go for the larger size.
Then again don't forget they show inclusions and body color so you will probably want a higher color and clarity than you would with a round of the same weight.

I wear a size 6 and my asscher is a 1.5. it does face up smaller so I sometimes wish my DH had gone with a 2 like we originally planned, but he down sized the weight to get better color and clarity which you need in an asscher. In all I'm very happy with the size and I get compliments on it all the time, but it is in a halo which tends to make the stones look larger too and makes me happy with the decision he made - trading in size for quality.

It is true that asschers do size up smaller then say a round would, But the most important thing I believe is cut cut cut! I never really think about size til the last step of stone picking. I would rather have a stone with a perfect cut and a low carat weight any day. So if you can do perfect cut with a bigger size that's terrific, but I would never let the carat weight be first on the list.

But I know I'll be speaking for others her as well, I can't wait to see what you get, asschers are so romantic! 8)

You can do a search if you like for my old asscher solitaire ering to see how my 2.25 ct asscher looked on my size 5 finger, but I think that with an asscher, the bigger the better. I also recommend something like a halo setting.

I really wanted an asscher, and when I had a 2.25 ct asscher, I was upset that it only faced up like a 1.3 ct round, and everyone thought that it was around 1 ct who saw it. I could never get over the fact that we spent so much money on carat weight that you couldn't see, and finally traded in the asscher for a 2 ct RB, which faces up much larger.

I would just urge you to be really sure that you want an asscher if face-up size is important to you. Even though I loved asschers for years and always thought I wanted one, I didn't realize that they were the smallest shape until after I had one. Since I am a size girl, I was never happy with how small my asscher looked for the carat weight. If you think it will bother you, maybe look at another step cut that faces up larger, like emerald cuts, instead. Good luck!

I agree with Vesper--when it comes to asschers, the bigger, the better! The hall of mirrors becomes more apparent in larger sizes, and that's what I love about asschers.

I have a 1.5 carat asscher on a size 8 finger and the combination makes it look smaller. DH kept telling me we should go up to 2 carats and I kept saying "No, no, hon, it's too much money and I'm fine with 1 carat!". Now I wish I'd just let him get the 2--I feel like 2+ carat asschers are when you really get the full effect.

Hi thank you everyone for your help... I went today to a jeweler and the asschers do look a lot smaller than a round cut would! But I'm still in love with an asscher! The asscher is just so elegant! Most likely we are gonna go with a 2ct or higher. I will post pictures!

I did a quick search on the carat-dimensions for asschers as I LOVE them, and would one day like one...10 yr anniversary? a small asscher as a gift to myself for a big event?... Anyways, I have a 1.55 RB 7.4mm...and when I looked for an asscher in the same size, I saw that it needs to be 2.25-2.5 carats to achieve this spread! I couldn't believe it! While I love the asschers, I don't know if I could go with a stone with less an a 7mm spread for a RHR after having my RB. I can't believe how much smaller they face up!

If you LOVE asscher, I would go bigger as you don't want to wish you had a bigger stone/spread down the road and dream of upgrading.

Somewhere, I believe I have a pic of me trying on Kenny's 2.26 ct. asscher on my size 4.75 finger. I think that was the exact sweet spot for me!

I would have to get a 4 ct asscher to get the look I want. Don't see that happening any time soon! One day, fingers crossed, I'm still young....

But even if the face size is a bit smaller, they can still be chunky! My Octavia asscher is 1.53ct and (only) 6.5mm, but it still looks a reasonable size because it's chunky, with its high crown. Width isn't everything, remember; depth can also make it look big! Good luck - it's a fun decision!

Well I got in touch with my jeweler in NYC and he told me that the asscher that I will be getting is an Octavia asscher.. I guess the corners are cut. Now my problem is that the jewelers that I have gone to here in CT don't seem to carry Octavia asschers. I'm having a really hard time picturing the size that I should go for. My jeweler said to look at 2 ct and up. I can't make it to NYC right now because of work issues. Can someone please help!! We are thinking of getting an asscher between 2ct to 2.5 ct. He also told me that the asscher has a high crown. I don't want my stone to be too small or too large. I don't want it to be too large where people think is fake. Your help is greatly appreciated. My jeweler told me that the 2 ct is 7.5mm by 7.5mm and the 2.5 carat is 8mm by 8mm. Thanks guys again!

Well it depends on the proportions the asscher is cut to.
Mine was not cut to those proportions.
My 2.26 ct asscher (not our Octavia) has the following dimensions.
Width: 7.38mm
Length: 7.41mm
Depth: 4.96mm

BTW KarlK, who posts here and designed the Octavia, has said the Octavia faces up similar to an asscher like mine.

I believe the only vendor thats sells Octavia Asschers is Goodoldgold.

They currently have none over 2 ct.
