Ultrasonic cleaner = loosening prongs?

Hi All,

I posted not too long ago about my diamond ring I got in August which looked a bit hazy. Turns out, you were all super right and it did just needed a good cleaning.

I purchased an ultrasonic at home with good reviews and wow, it looks like a different stone!

Only thing is, I read ultrasonic can loosen the stones a bit and my paranoia got me curious... I gave the ring a shake next to my hear and it is rattling a bit.

I've emailed my jeweller to check it out for me but I wondered if it was the ultrasonic that did it? I've only had the ring for 2 months and used the machine twice in the last 2 weeks.

Should I be using it less? Is an ultrasonic bad for my ring? Any tips?

It can make a loose stone worse very quickly.
It is not likely to move a tightly set stone.
If your going to use one learn to check your stone yourself and do so often.

So glad to hear the cleaning worked! It’s amazing how much grime diamonds attract and how that grime changes the look of the stone. I prefer to err on the side of over-cleaning. I put all my rings in my ultrasonic and have never had any issues. I‘ve always heard it was small pave diamonds that could come lose due to the vibration, not larger stones. So I’d be surprised if the ultrasonic is to blame. My guess is the diamond wasn’t well set in the prongs to begin with.
