Alright, after spending thousands on a lifelong rock of beauty what''s another couple hundred to keep it clean right?
I wanted to know the right way to use these machines together.
Ultrasonic first, then Jewel Jet? other way around?

I use the ultrasonic first, then I use the Jewel Jet to top it off.

ditto!

I got too scared to use my US after it seemed to have loosened several stones...so now I just use my Jewel Jet, and soak my pieces really well in cleaner first.

Are there any diamonds you cannot use for the ultrasonic and Jewel Jet? For example, diamonds with I1 or I2 clarity? Just curious.

Also, there were huge threads before about the Sharper Image ultrasonic which is no longer made. What are some good ultrasonics you''d recommend now, and if you can only get the Jewel Jet or an ultrasonic, which would you choose?

On my wife''s Tacori diamond and platinum rings, I usually start off by mixing one cap full of Blitz Gem & Jewelry Cleaner with a cup of water and lightly scrub under and around the diamond/band with a baby toothbrush (soft bristles). This removes the light dirt and smudges in which the jewel jet will not remove. Make sure you lightly scrub the pavilion of the diamond (the bottom), for a diamond, if the entire diamond is not cleaned, it will not sparkle.

Once I complete this, I rinse the diamond with lukewarm water. Then I begin with the Jewel Jet. I start by shooting steam under the diamond/band. Then around the diamond/band.

Once I complete the jewel jet, I mix one cap full of Gem & Jewelry Cleaner (non toxic) and one cup of water inside of my Sonic Wave Professional Ultrasonic Cleaner (cheap on amazon). I run around six 1 minute cycles on the ultrasonic cleaner. This machine gets rid of the excess grime the jewel jet did not steam away. Once I complete that. I rinse with warm water for about 30 seconds, then wipe down with a Jewelry Polishing Microfiber cloth.

And it Sparkles even more than using only the Jewel Jet!

From what I''ve gathered on this site the ultrasonic machines and steam cleaners do a little different kind of cleaning.
I like what I''ve read about both and instead of making trips to the jeweler all the time I''m going to purchase both.
From what I understand these two machines are what the jewelers are using to get you the shine you can never seem to get at home with your toothbrush.
If I had to choose one I''d get an ultrasonic.
I''ve read good things on this site about Gemoro, Crest, the Sparkle Spa.
They all seem to be very popular as long as they are between 40,000 and 42,000 Khz. (same machine/different manufacturer)
I''m eyeballing this one on ebay right now that looks pretty good for the price.
Can anyone vouge for the manufacturer? opinions wanted :)

I wrote the seller about the heating unit and this was his response-
Hello,

This smaller 2.5L size unit has a temp setting up to 175, although it will take a long time to actually get that hot, although its reaches 160 in about 30 minutes, the 170+ temps take almost an hour. Its because this smaller unit has 1 heater.
Thanks,

Wes

I use the US first then Jewel Jet occasionally on weekends.

Personally I wouldn''t bother with a heated unit, I would just pour warm water (hot from the tap or microwave etc) into a non-heated unit. Saves time waiting for the thing to heat up. I believe a heated unit would be of more value in a shop where they''re using it all day, so they can just leave it on all the time making the initial warmup time less of an issue.

agree 101%...i''d own a heated unit, but it takes forever too heat up,so yes,a non heat one is fine just microwave the solution first.

the ones that are made in the U.S.A.

This might sound odd, but I''d ask your dentist for a recommendation. I could be wrong, but I think Sharper Images machines still exist in the guise of dental ultrasonics, with another brand name (think it''s L&R).

I got mine when my dentist was upgrading the one in his surgery.
