UK Buyer - Not Sure What To Do

Hi stebbo,

The diamond we are talking about doesnt seem to have a scan cert on either site. And a feature that could show a scan of every report would be a great improvement but is impossible the way the trade works. We make every effort like the rest of the online sellers to do this but its not possible. I also fully understand a shipper will buy from where ever he feels happiest with. I am not here to compare my company with the finest in the business but my reason for these posts are, you do not save money buying overseas. If you want to because you like the site or the staff or for any other reason then thats your choice.

You do have a good knolwedge and i am sure when searching for yourself or friends you will find a great stone at the best prices. You have good reason to be a WF fan they do a great job. But we are just trying to give the UK consumer a diffrent option than buying overseas. Every company has strenghs and weaknesses
but so many people on this forum shout that you save so much money buying overeas and this is not the case.

You havent been to hard on me, all i wanted to do was get the price point across. I understand Ps is a community and you advise people on what you feel is best. I do intend to approach Ps about marketing as it seems such a great place for consumers to get honest info they would never get in a store and i think its great.

Its a shame all the UK members seemed determined to buy overseas. Once you pay the duties and taxes it doesnt save you anything plus its very hard to deal with alterations if any are needed. Plus buying british and staying legal must be good. It will save you money compared to High street prices but not from UK Online prices.

i) I believe that you may merely be stating your opinion as fact, with reference to the highlighted parts of your posts.

While you are entitled to your opinion; I reserve my judgment that it is not possible for such a blanket statement to be true. If it is I wonder the extent of your research? Most PS''ers are aware that diamond vendors have access to a shared inventory. Most PS vendor’s price match each other on this virtual inventory so that is nothing new here. Some vendors (e.g. WF is the name I know and trust but GOG also applies; off the top of my head) examine and take certain diamonds into their stock (eg. ACA,ES). Such ''in stock'' branded diamonds has engendered confidence in me and other PS''s. Just to ask that we compare apples to apples and the like. Price matching virtual stock is great but (IMO) whatever, PS''ers tend to go for the branded goodies.

ii) With reference to your company, I understood that you had to mention your firm (I stand to be corrected). Perhaps you should check that out? I didn’t read the rules to mean that this was discretionary. Rather than underlining your impartiality, I feel that not referencing your interests has the opposite effect. Perhaps that is just me? Mentioning your interests is not just down to marketing, it also recognises your partiality.

That said, I restate my welcome, which I mean most heartily. Knowledge can never be considered a bad thing. But I would prefer all cards on the table and all affiliations out too.

Another PS'er from the UK here.

I haven't found anywhere in the UK that I'm happy to work with.

2 years ago I went over to see my dealer in Antwerp if I wanted a stone.

Now I use the USA.

I am always way ahead on price.

I also like to use either people that I have a RL relationship with, or where I have the backup of PS recommendation for my US suppliers.

I got so fed up with aggressive and inaccurate sales pitches in Hatton Garden and lack of enthusiasm to let me see all the details. In contrast, all the US vendors I have worked with have been more than helpful and a pleasure to do business with.

People also appreciate the lifetime upgrade options.

I just checked out QD's website.

I bought a diamond a couple of months ago - to buy it from you would cost me at least $2k more than it did, once taxes were taken into account.

You also don't put crown/pavillion angles or photos, or Idealscope or anything of that sort on your website - so I have no idea how good any of your stones really are. The clarity section in your 'about this diamond' is also generic not stone specific.

I want to be able to run the figures through the HCA instantly - I'm not going to bother emailing etc, especially if the price is looking so much more than the US one.

Sorry, you just won't compete with the vendors here as far as the PS crowd are concerned unless you are providing a LOT more information than you are.
