Two solitary diamonds -- into one setting?

I hope someone can help. My problem is that I have two very different soliary diamond enagement rings that both need resetting because of extreme wear (both are old). I had been wearing them together on one finger, and they did fit together oddly enough. One is a heart-shaped white diamond, the other is a round yellow diamond. Both are about the same size, a little over 1/2 each carat. Both have sentimental value.

The jeweler who looked at them yesterday said these are two stones he would never put together in one ring, but the alternative is to set them in two different settings (as before) and wear them together (as before), however he said the rubbing against each other is what caused so much of the wear and tear on the settings. I don''t want to turn either of the stones into something else such as a pendant or earrings. I already have a ring I wear on the other hand. We looked at some two-diamond settings he had in his book, but nothing thrilled me very much. Do I set them offset? Do I set them on top of each other (that was how I was wearing them, basically).

What''s a girl to do? Anybody have any setting suggestions? I can post pictures if that would be helpful.

Thanks,
Joanne

It might be unusual to set them together, but if you love it, I would do it! Pics would help to generate some ideas for you maybe - good luck with the project, sounds fun!

what about one of those wrap settings...I can''t seem to find a picture but where there are two diamonds in the center and a space in between them and they are connected by the band...oh gosh that was a bad description, maybe someone can help me out!

maybe like this except instead of the two flowers you could have both of your diamonds, maybe bezel set? just an idea...

Hi Joanneob,

Moi et toi rings (French for me and you) are a classic look that have been around a long time - there are many antique and vintage examples. The idea is that each stone represents each person in the realtionship, so dissimilar stones are not usualy a problem. I think you could set the two stones together in that style.

Another option would be to get an additional yelow diamond and have the two be sidestones for your heart to make a 3 stone ring.

If your jeweller is not cofident in his abilities to make you a beautiful ring, perhaps you should seek out another jeweller who has more experience with this kind of thing.

Good luck!
