Two Different Diamonds, Same Price, Better Deal?

Hello all!

I'm looking to purchase a diamond for an engagement ring and need help determining which diamond I should go with. I've tried doing some research, and have read many articles saying to go with a GIA certified diamond. I know that the difference in color grades when comparing EGL and GIA is two grades. The first diamond listed below is from a family run business and the second is from a well known jewelry store.

Shape: Round
CT: 1.71
Color: F
Clarity: SI2
Cut: Very Good
Grading: EGL
Sellers Price: $9,000

Shape: Round
CT: 1.52
Color: J
Clarity SI2
Cut: Very Good
Grading: GIA
Sellers Price: $9,000

Have you taken your parameters and plugged them into the PS diamond search engine? Under "advanced search" - you can specify GIA for the lab. When buying an RB - ideal cut is the only way to go!

The bolded represents an average of two color and or clarity grades. Depending on which EGL lab graded the stone the difference can be much more. I've seen them be off by as many as 6 on color alone (EGL report vs colorimeter which was calibrated correctly according to vendor). The problem with EGL, more than the fact that they are lenient on grading is the fact that they are inconsistent, making it impossible to predict if they will be off by 1, 2, 4. 6 or more color/clarity grades. This makes it impossible to compare cost against another stone, even within EGL itself. We also talk a lot about the difference in color and clarity grading and little about the difference in cut grading. EGL has a much broader range than both GIA and AGS for cut grade, the fact that this stone received an EGL VG would eliminate in immediately for me.
