Hi All,

Can I get some opinions on these 2 settings. The 1st is pretty common, halo, split shank setting & the other is a more bold rope style setting. These settings are completely polar opposites. My concern is not so much the split shank halo one, seems that I've tried on a ton that are similar to this one. It's more the rope style one that I'm concerned about. Do those with rope style shanks find them uncomfortable? Do you think this ring is super high at 6.9I suppose I need to get to a David Yurman store to try some on. LOL Metal for either will be Platinum, size 6. I'm looking for something "different" but not sure what that is actually. I love halo's but the styles just blend 1 into the other. I initially thought of doing the Sholdt semi bezel with the channel setting down the middle but decided against that. I don't like channel set stones. Plus, I would have to have it custom made cause I don't want a bezel. Ugh. It's awful being undecided. :wall: Both rings are reasonably priced & the split shank is actually $200 cheaper. Buying something custom made at this point doesn't work for me & I need something ready to buy. If I do go custom down the road, either one of these would be set with a gemstone. I wonder how dated the rope ring would get. Ahhhh decisions, decisions.

** Adwar will sell just the ring itself without the band **

If there are other styles you care to throw in the mix, I'm open to your ideas.

I agree. I'm just concerned it's too high. The halo looks a bit off, like it should be as wide as the rope not smaller than it. Hard to tell exactly with the pic too. Perhaps I should hold off & see what DK can come up with that might be more delicate. There's always a solitaire solution till I figure it out. LOL Thanks for your opinion.

My friend had a rope design ER and wedding band 40 years ago, not dissimilar to that. She's recently changed them because she found that the rope edges attracted dirt.

Before you buy your own setting, be sure you have a jeweler lined up who is willing and insured to set outside stones. That is often quite a barrier.

Couple of more thoughts along the 'unique' vein...In platinum, some of these will exceed to $2k budget, but I was focusing on some options with a unique style.

Set it in this now and spend some time pondering what you really like for a setting...I'd send the diamond and this setting to WF to set the stone.

Out of the 3 Stuller settings, the 2nd one seems to have a more delicate halo with smaller sized melee compared to the rest. Personally, I think a more delicate halo enhances the center stone rather than take away from it.

I wear a Tiffany twist daily and have never felt it attracted dirt. I can’t speak to other people’s experience of course- so not to say that wasn’t hers. Just that wouldn’t be a reason to avoid that twisted metal look

With that said I think it makes that particular ring look overdesigned so I like the first one.

Thanks everybody for weighing in. I do like the rope but I agree Niel, the design is overdone. Looks like a jelly fish to me. LOL I tried emailing DK in July, nothing, & again a few days ago, nothing. I'm too tired to chase down having something custom made. I hope he hires more people, clearly they need the extra staff.

Rocky, thanks for the links. The Jeff Cooper ones are really pretty but way short on diamond weight. I like the styles on James Allen but the actual pics of the ring stops me. They don't look that great. Maybe they just don't photograph them that well. I was temped to go with the waterfall edge one but the sale is over now. I did check out the CVB ring on Loupetroop. I actually got a quote for $600 for the platinum stuller with the crown style base, in my size which is what I'll order if I go for a solitaire. I love the CVB ring, it's quite pretty but the vendor charges $100 to set the stone & then an upsize charge cause I need it in a 6 so there goes my savings. I may still try to retrofit my old setting & call it a day.

Alexiszoe, I agree the smaller melee around the 2nd ring halo would be more delicate. What is stopping me from pursuing that ring is the the width at the bottom of the finger. 3.9mm is quite hefty. I could probably carry it as I had once had a wedding set on my hand but I'd like a thinner, more tapered fit. The last one has a base width of 2.4 with a thickness of 2.6 which is ok. The 1st one is kinda chintzy at a base thickness of 1.7mm. The halo on the last one looks like it's got a bit more of a lip on it but maybe in person will not be so big a deal. LOL I'm laughing because most of us on here are so detail oriented & if I was getting one custom made, I sure would be! Oh, the stones that are around both halo's of the 1st & last ring are 1pt stones. Not that big actually when around an 8.40mm stone.

Each style has it's pros and cons. I'll post once I figure it out. :wall:
