So it's the New Year and as I'm hoping to finish up turning my 5 stone into a right hand eternity. Trying to get the last few stones now and came across two ACA's I'm very interested in. But for now, am only getting one.

Both are H color and .52ct, but one's a VS1 the other's a VS2. Here are the links VS1 and the VS2.

I have two questions. I noticed that the VS1 looks significantly tinted compared to the VS2. It might just be the pics, but I don't think there should be that much of a difference in color, as they were both taken in the same lighting, the same way.
Does anyone else see this?

Also, on the AGS report for the VS1 it says clarity grading based on clouds not shown, and doesn't list the clouds on the inclusion plot. Should this be a concern? The VS2 has what looks to be a rather large cloud that is plotted but also says additional clouds not shown.

What are your thoughts regarding the color difference in the pics, and the clarity grades?

eta: I just noticed the VS2 is sold but was still coming on the PS search. Ok, it's out of the running. The color difference between the pics is still bugging me though. Anyone have any other ideas on where I can compare another stone of the same specs?

Elle-Chris:

I agree with the tint observation but I would ask them to compare them and tell you. May I ask about your project? I am working on an eternity band myself-I started out wanting .25 and now am thinking .3. Are you doing an eternity of .50''s?

I see it too, I would just call WF and ask for their opinion.

HI:

I would be more concerned about the color next to the stones I already own. Are they all H''s?

cheers--Sharon

Bgray- Yes, the eternity is going to have half carats.

I emailed Juli but she won''t get back to me before Monday. Still hoping to find other stones that fit the specs I need.

So far, out of the 5 that are set, 3 are I''s and 2 are H''s. ( as we needed to do a new stone last minute on the ring I''m pretty sure we had to do an H). But, over the last year I''ve been buying up stones and they''re all H''s. I''m also going to be upgrading two of the I''s that are already set to H''s.

wow how are they set? prings? oh my gosh!

Shared U prong. Not sure if I''ll have WF make it again or Mark Morrell. Mark has a gorgeous Uprong eternity with lovely prongs, and I love the 90% plat and 10% iri combo. My e-ring has the same platinum combo and there''s hardly any scratches on it.

So you have 5 stones (are going to upgrade 2) and will buy the others as they come available and then have the whole thing made? I have been trying to figure this out for a while myself...........

I have a total of 11 stones. 5 are set into my five stone ring. The other 6 are loose. This will be my 12 stone.

eta: yes, upgrading 2 of the I's that are set to H's.

your ring in your avatar looks stunning are there other pix of it anywhere?

Never judge diamond color by comparing two separate pics.
There are many possible explanations for the color being different in the pics.

One possibility is their camera is correctly set to the color temperature of their light source but lights change color as they warm up.
In color-critical work the operator should wait till the lights are fully warmed up.
So one pic may have been taken right when the lights were turned on, and the other after they had warmed up.
BTW, some camera's white balance can be set to auto, but experts doing color-critical work do not trust these auto white balance settings.

I'd be 100% confident, if GIA assigned both the color grade H, that they will look the same color to you.
Ignore the pics.

Don''t gauge color by internet photos. There are so many variables with regards to lighting and camera settings.

Brian Gavin has a couple 0.54ct stones (H VS1). Is that too big?

Sounds like a lovely project. I LOVE MM''s eternity bands. I love the prongs he does.

I emailed WF asking about the stone. Will see what they say. I''m hoping it''s a true H and not closer to an I.

Kenny- if this were a GIA stone I''d feel more confident in the color. I know everyone says that AGS is on par with GIA with color and clarity, but most of the stones I''ve had independtly appraised with AGS reports come back as a borderline or 1 color grade lower. No idea why, and I know that many people here feel my appraiser is too hard on color. But my GIA stones are always dead on. He looks at them without seeing the reports in advance so he''s not being biased.

bgray- Thank you. My e-ring is the Sholdt semi-bezel. For some strange reason I''m getting an error when I looked for my old posts. Heyeliza and Portlandkelly have the same setting so there''s a ton of pics floating around of it

swingirl thanks. Currently I only have one stone that''s a .54ct. Was hoping to keep them between .52-.53. But I will check out Brian Gavin anyway. Set in a ring it''s almost impossible to tell the difference in those sizes.

btw- here''s a pic of the MM ring. I think it''s just gorgeous and even hubby went "whoa" when I showed it to him. Looks like it will probably be the MM.

Oooh - the MM is STUNNING - this is going to be such a beautiful project when its finished!!

Elle-Chris: thats going to be some band!!!

elle, that is going to be one gorgeous ring

That is going to be jaw-droppingly GORGEOUS.

Can''t wait to see it!!!

Lordy woman, it will be amazing!

I like the MWM setting a lot. How do diamonds that large feel between the fingers?

As to the clarity Q, I think it is only an issue with SI graded stones, and actually that wording is a real danger sign with SI stones, meaning you should always have an expert look at the diamonds in person to determine if the could is affecting the brilliance or causing white/grey hazy reflections in some lights. But with VS I doubt it is an issue because by definition the inclusions would be less obtrusive. I also think that WF would not select diamonds where the clouds are a problem, but I suppose anything is possible. Best to just ask about it when you talk to them.

Yeah, I love the MM ring as well. I love that the stones look like they sit low in the ring.

DD- the five stone doesn''t bother me at all. It did at first but I got used to it. The eternity ring will be worn alone on the right hand and my original wedding band on the left (without my e-ring. Yes, i think there''s such a thing as too much bling..lol.)

elle, your ring is going to be amazing! And collecting .5 ACAs seems like a very fun project, too! I can''t wait to see the finished product!

Collecting the stones is a fun project! The ring won''t be done (or given to me) until August for our 6th anniversary. Provided I get all the stones before then.

Debi just emailed me back. I want her to find out if the H is a true H or closer to an I.

How many do you need total to complete the ring?

Between 14 and 16.

When I''m up to my 14th stone, I''m calling MM and making an appointment to see him. Want him to measure my finger, see the stones and let me know if I''ll be needing more.

So you''re getting pretty close, then! I guess most of it depends on WF''s inventory. (And of course waiting until your actual anniversary!)

You''re making me want to start a collection of my own! I just looked at some eternity rings and I think I''d need 14 or 15 .3s...I don''t think I have your patience, though-I always want it all immediately! Maybe this could teach me some patience!

Thing2- It was easy to start collecting them because there''s nothing I really want other than this band. Ok, a Sapphire ring but that''s not a priority.
If there''s alot of dfferent things you want, it may not be a good idea. But if you have your heart set on something like an eternity, it''s pretty easy to do.

Very good point, elle! I''ll have to keep this project in mind for when I don''t want anything else. Right now my list is too long, I think!
