I just remembered something when someone brought it up in a different thread... I remember people saying larger diamonds (like the one you're after) aren't cut precisely as they are for size/wt retention. And that's true as I run a search in JA.com. Most of the stones are fugly, but the few that are ideal/excellent cut that look NICE come with a hefty price tag.
On the ASET you want as much red as possible. Increased amounts of red = increased brightness. Green means less brightness on that part of the stone, but it's generally OK. You need some blue for contrast. (i.e. on the arrows), and that's the area(s) that are being blocked by you. White on the ASET is no good; light is lost.
I don't think your ASET is terribly bad, but obviously not the best. Perhaps the stone will still perform well since it's mainly red and green, I would think that's ok. The only thing to me is that the symmetry is ill-defined, and things just look a little erratic (for lack of better word). I mean, if the price is right... I guess you should! Does it look bright to you? Can you snap a pic of the stone for the experts to see?
Have you tried the Asian Garden Mall in Westminster there? The Diamond district isn't too far from Tustin - 20 miles or so? You may have better luck there as there are alot of dealers there...
It seems decently bright, but again, I am new at this.
I keep thinking VS2 (higher clarity) may equal better performing idealscope, even though that isnt true. I just see that there are more clouds and twining wisps on Si1, which I have read, leads to poorer performance. Since there are less twining wisps and clouds on VS2+, maybe that will lead to better (more red) idealscopes. Let me know if my thinking is wrong.
I have not been to asian garden mall. What was your luck there? I don't know if I trust those places. I think they have bad diamonds for some reason. How are the prices and quality?
Hi - Just curious if you ended up buying this diamond with the GIA cert you attached. I am considering a 3.10 carat with similar twinning wisps and feathers. Have you had any problems at all with your diamond?
