I think they can now charge 5 (or maybe even 6?) times the base amount on account of age. So while my insurance could be $100 since I'm young (yeah, right! It'll be way higher) that means yours (I don't know your age, just anyone "older") could be $500.

This is one of the things they were including in repeal of ACA, that there could be no analysis of how much it would cost to repeal the ACA. The problem is not that there is an ACA, but that it doesn't go far enough. There were many concessions made so that existing drug companies and insurance companies (why do we need this many insurance companies? They are a middle man that costs money!) would maintain profitability. We need to eliminate the middlemen and have a single payer system. That's the smart way to do it. Simply repealing the ACA is not going to help either access or affordability. In fact it will cost money and increase strain on the healthcare industry due to the number of uninsured, who still cannot be turned away for emergency services.

Many people believe this was the intent in the first place knowing ACA would fail. It is very hard to get rid of an entitlement once people are on it - no matter how bad it is or costly for the rest of the country.

As I have already commented since of course people who use the insurance more should pay more.

I hated when it was on the backs of 20 and 30 years olds.

I believe in paying my own way and not expecting others to carry me.

All I want is a choice of policies so I can pick what best suits me.

As far as the subsidiary, or lack of, I never qualified for one under ObamaCare either.

Since people are discussing the changes to ACA here, I wanted to clarify how it's possible to have hearings/meeting about a bill before anyone has discussed (or figured out) cost. Here's a quote from a CNN article I just read:

Democrats are complaining that the hearings are taking place before the Congressional Budget Office has a chance to "score" the House legislation, a process that will provide answers on how much it will cost and how many people it will cover.
Rep. Richard Neal, the top Democrat on the Ways and Means panel, cited the lack of the report as a reason the effort should be postponed. "To consider a bill of this magnitude without a CBO score is not only puzzling and concerning, but also irresponsible," Neal said.

Obviously I understand that Dems arent going to want these hearings to happen quickly, but I do think it's 100% reasonable to delay them until the CBO scores it (or whatever it's called when they determine how much it will cost and how many people will be covered). I dont understand how there can be any informed conversation about the proposed plan until that happens.

Let me make sure I'm clear on this: The AHCA (which I pronounce AhKah -- think cat coughing up a giant hairball) is going to be voted on and then after it's voted on it's going to get changed. So that's like buying a car and then once you get it home the dealer comes out in the middle of the night and swaps the rims and removes the sunroof and replaces it with a bolted on piece of steel.

Have you not read my threads. The policy my husband and I have now under ObamaCare is crap. I am paying for something I basically cannot use. I have a $5,000 deductible and have been paying more and more out of pocket lately.

And we were just notified that to look out for changes in the coming mail.

My husband took his job at the State, not because it paid comparison salaries, but because it had a good health plan. And he has worked there for over 35 years. So he worked for it and his salary is commensurate for the time he has put in. Neither he nor I need to apologize for that.

And why should we go out and pay for something that he has earned?

You see I am willing to pay for more based on my age and health. I do not expect 20 and 30 year olds to pay for me.

Neither do I care to pay for the able bodied who have never worked an honest day in their life and expect others to take care of them.

My husband will qualify for medicare this year but cannot leave work because (1) I am much younger than him and (2) so he can cover our two girls.

I am well acquainted with medicare and what it covers because I was the POA for my late mother and my husband is the POA for his mother.

As far as not caring for others, you do not know me, so stop assuming. As you have no idea what I do in the community.

The Liar in Chief is at it again. How many lies will it take for his supporters to wake up? He accused the former President of the US of a felony. He has no idea how the checks and balances of our country work. Supposedly he was asking on Sat night if he could hired an outside investigator to prove his lie. Would that be the same investigator he hired to track down Obama's birth certificate. The one that was giving all sorts of "interesting" info that Trump never released? It didn't seem to bother them that he lied about undocumented immigrants when he announced his run. It didn't bother them when he lied about 1000's of New Jersey Muslims cheering on 9/11. It didn't bother them when he lied about President Obama's citizenship for over 8 years. It didn't bother them when he accused Obama of being a Muslim. When he did that he wasn't saying it in any positive way, it was derogatory. He was branding the President an enemy of the US. It didn't bother them when he lied about voter fraud. It didn't bother them when he lied about his inauguration crowd size. The list goes on. He is a braggart and pathological liar. His defenders say he is a salesman and deal maker. This is the way a great salesman acts? It is not, my late husband was a senior VP at a Fortune 100 company and a great salesman. By saying that and giving a pass to his actions and behavior, you are smearing honest people that are able to make deals and not stoop as low as Trump has done during his whole life.

His supports looked past his nasty comments about women, the groping of women, walking into the Miss Teen America dressing room and bragging that the underage girls were in various stages of undress. If your daughter, sister or mother were one of these woman, would you be OK with it? Some have said they have overlooked these flaws in character because they want lower taxes, jobs or to stop abortion. Then you have no understanding of how insurance works. The concept of insurance is to spread risks and costs so that the insured and insurers remain solvent.

Even the new AHCA has the 20 and 30 year olds paying for you and other old people: why do you think they've put in the 30% penalty if folks don't keep continuous coverage? This is the stick that will incentivize the young, presumably healthy, people to be insured and remain insured.

The AHCA in its current form will shift more of the cost to older folks by allowing old folks premiums to be much higher (up to 5x vs 3x under ACA) than the young'uns. Because the oldies are paying more, insurance companies can lower the youngsters' premiums even more -- it's another way to persuade them to become insured. Even though each young individual pays less, it will be positive if a lot of them sign up.

If you really don't want others to pay for you and don't want to pay for others, then you should pay actual cost...without insurance (i.e. all the other insured people subsidizing your healthcare costs).
