White supremacists a la StormFront were always weird fringe people no one really took seriously. Now one is in the White House and their memes are going viral apparently.

Deflection from the truth of the statement.

I wasn't commenting on or deflecting from the statement itself. I was making the observation that white supremacists are having a massive rise in prominence, and I can comment on whatever I'd like.

Is that a quote from white supremacist Stephen Miller?

Don't know him. I know the words that are on the page are true though.

You don't know who Stephen Miller is? Really?

No I don't. Should I? Are you insinuating because you tell me he is a white supremacist that I should know who he is? Is that like asking me where is my KKK card?

If you are referring to the White House aide Stephen Miller who cares? Doesn't change the truth of the statement just because you think he is a white supremacist. You think that of many people who don't agree with you including me likely.

Lol. I honestly found it strange that someone who seems to spend so much time in this thread didn't know who Miller is, as I know he's been mentioned multiple times. You may imagine whatever you like as far as my "insinuations" go, but that was the extent of it.

Miller pointing out the "bias" of anything at all to do with Obama is a joke, since he is a fervid Trump thumper of the highest order. I'd suggest a quote from an impartial person, and perhaps one not so widely regarded as a white supremacist; but you do you.

Also, please don't attribute your imaginings as being my actual thoughts. You would literally have no idea what my actual thoughts are, just as I have no idea what yours are. Although if we want to "insinuate" things, one could insinuate quite a bit about someone who quotes a white supremacist as a source of "truth".

"their memes are going viral" is commenting on what I posted. If you are using the white supremacist terminology then you are not interested in discussing hypocrisy in the media which is the basis for the statement. You just want to rant about Trump. Sure you can comment on anything you like and I will not take anything you say seriously on this subject.

I find it interesting that you and Eliot are so caught up in who said this rather than discussing the actual words and their validity.

All of the talk of deflecting is quite funny, since that meme was actually a classic deflection - "Obama did it!" - when what we were discussing is Trump. Of course you should post what you like. I would recommend managing your expectations, though - quoting Miller here, inside this thread, isn't likely to elicit a round of applause and serious discussion.

Elliot - looks like we're on the same wavelength. Who'd have thunk it? ;)

So because the Obama administration did something that was widely criticized in terms of the press it's fine for DT to essentially call everything he doesnt like "fake news"? That doesn't make any sense. Many outlets criticized Obama for how that was handled, and said that it paved the way for people to bar freedom of the press. And now that DT has done that, it's DT's turn to be blamed. I'm allowed to think that something Obama did was bad and also realize that DT is 100000000x worse because he's calling the press the "opposition party", saying that the media can't be trusted, and barring the media from briefings.

Hitler had some good quotes too, but no one quotes them because of who said it. That DOES matter to some people.

As far as I know Trump has not had DOJ investigating reporters. Your tweet posts have been about Trump locking out reporters. The quote was a pretty fair comparison actually. I don't care if anyone gives any applause and you don't care about hypocrisy. So I guess we are squared away. I will learn to control my expectations.

The media often cannot be trusted as the current FBI/CNN/NYT issue proves. Though he should not be barring certain media from briefings.

Yeah, I worry for my Indian friends, and even for my Asian relatives.

I don't know if you saw this. It didn't get much traction when it happened, although it should have gotten much much more - there was just a whole lot going on at the time, you know, back before fake news and unfairness to 45. But this is the sort of nonsense I worry about the most - crazy white men blowing stuff - and people - up. Being 5 blocks away when the Murrah Building blew up kinda put the big scary Middle Eastern terrorist, in perspective for me. That and going to buy dog food recently and seeing a young guy walking around with a sidearm on his hip, like we're in the freaking old west.

White guys with incendiary devices and guns and inferiority complexes are much scarier to me.

WOW, no I didn't hear about that! I kind of can't believe I missed it, but you're right, there was a lot happening at the time. These types of scenarios are so frightening. The hate speech quoted in the article by the perp(s) is absolutely disgusting. It's just so damn ignorant.

"The calls were orchestrated by the White House after unsuccessful attempts by the administration to get senior FBI officials to speak with news organizations and dispute the accuracy of stories on the alleged contacts with Russia.

The White House on Friday acknowledged those interactions with the FBI but did not disclose that it then turned to other officials who agreed to do what the FBI would not — participate in White House-arranged calls with news organizations, including The Washington Post."

First of all, all presidents and administrations pursue the source of leaks. Most of them just don't bray about it from the rooftops.

Secondly, I think I've said here before that I was and am a big Obama fan. That said, I think he and his administration made some very big mistakes in dealing with the press-- particularly in his first term. They got better, but were never as transparent as I think they could/should have been. What he did not do, was have members of his administration bleat and whine about bias and how unfairly he was being treated in comparison to his predecessor.

I have to say, though, at this point, I don't think being barred from press conferences makes any particular difference. Real reporting doesn't happen there. As press critic Jay Rosen says - send the interns.
