You just drank Mitch McConnell's Kool Aid, but he won't be as lucky getting the rest of the country to drink it. He made a bad mistake invoking Rule 19. Joe Scarborough, who served in Congress with him, said it went against his (McConnell's) philosophy to silence Senator Warren. He thinks the order to silence her came from The White House or was a personal request from Jeff Sessions because doing so was so stupid. All it did was to martyr Senator Warren, who went on to get her statement into the public record and to get far, far more publicity for it than she would have if he had not red carded her.

Now she is at the top of the news cycle.

Like I said, I wonder if her entire show was to pander to her constituents and to Twitter.

I have been to many local meetings for our city and school department.

I have seen what has happened when rules are not enforced and it gets out of control.

If Rule 19 was actually enforced often, your argument (Ruby) would make sense. The problem is that rule 19 is virtually never used, and hasn't been used in recent history despite things getting very heated on the senate floor. There are a multitude of issues with the use of the rule in this case.
1) pointed out already by another poster: in order to properly vet someone for a position, you HAVE to question them/their past actions/etc. Otherwise, how does one argue against a nomination?
2) This rule was used against Warren for something far less extreme than what has been said on the floor in the past. Example: Where was rule 19 when this quote was said:
"I'm forced to listen to the bitter, vulgar, incoherent ramblings of the minority leader," "Normally, like every other American, I ignore them. I can't ignore them today. . . . When was the last time the minority leader read a bill? It was probably an electricity bill. ... This institution will be cursed less with his cancerous leadership."
3) Members of the GOP suddenly were fine when other Dems read the EXACT SAME LETTER. WTF!?

If she had spoken and they did this almost immediately, I would agree.

But they gave her every chance to stop and she refused.

As far as it being applied in this case and not others, I again could understand if it was the same person running it and treating individuals differently.

But this is a new administration, and this is how they chose to handle the situation with a provision that allows them to.

Senator Warren if she had kept her cool could have done her job. She chose her own outcome.

So do you feel it is the government's purpose or responsibility to provide those things that Magdalene tweeted about? Just asking.

I'm not katharath but I'm going to jump in here (hop you don't mind katharath) and point out that Walsh is not saying people are entitled to those THINGS, he's saying that people are entitled to RIGHTS to those things. In that I do agree with him and I feel it is the government's responsibility to provide those rights. BTW, I am pointing out what Walsh said because, although Magdalene was responding to him using different words, I read her meaning to be the same.

DeeJay, no issues at all with you jumping in, but I want to clarify a few things:

Joe Walsh is a pretty awful guy, regarded as a racist, dead beat dad (famously owed over $115K in child support for years), former politician who was voted out and pretty much hated, etc etc. I believe his tweet was intended as a joke; he actually doesn't think the gov't should bear ANY of these responsibilities. The tweets below his are not saying that the gov't should shoulder ALL of those responsibilities, but they suggest that the mental and physical health of a country SHOULD be a priority of its govt. I heartily agree with that sentiment.

For reference on what kind of guy he is, link to a WaPo article about Walsh:

My original response was to the FIRST tweet you posted (with know way to know that was facetious given all we had to go off of were his literal words on a page -- as has been stated many times, things do not translate well on the web without "tone"). Obviously I do not agree with the SECOND tweet you posted. MY position remains the same: I believe it is the government's responsibility to provide RIGHTS to health care, a job, a meal and housing.

I'm not sure what state you're in but here in Illinois we have a joke (that I've posted before) that being elected to office is an 8 year term in this state -- 4 years in that office and the next 4 in prison!

This feels like a good addition to the current topic; certainly not something Joe Walsh would agree with  (I did the "editing" myself, lol).

Katharath I was not talking about healthcare. I specifically asked about the things that Magdalene wrote about since you posted the tweet and wanted people to see the responses. I am still not sold on healthcare being a right because inevitably that leads to the government providing or paying for it. The government has not proven to me that it can handle providing adequate care to veterans so the thought that people want them to provide it to over 325 million people is frightening. The other things, housing, job, food are not responsibilities of the government to provide IMO.

"Politics!" "Wrong!" "Sad!" It's how a child would tweet.

Here's the recent one. It's sickening how proud he is of the mistrust he has fostered.

This isn't a tweet from tweeto von cheeto but rather a very colorful one to him. Leach deserves an award for creativity. Full article: http://www.phillyvoice.com/pennsylvania-senator-trump-come-after-me-you-s-gibbon/

Excerpt:
Leach's spokesperson, Steve Hoenstine, said in a statement the senator's post was inspired by justified anger:
"President Trump blithely talked about destroying the career of a man who disagreed with Trump on a policy issue. Then Trump laughed about it, which is just what you’d expect from someone who gets his kicks firing people on national television. Trump just continues to undermine democratic norms, America’s system of checks and balances, and the general principle of human decency. Senator Leach is mad as hell about it, as you can see from his tweet."

HA! That's CLASSIC!

I also love the woman with the sign at the bottom of the article as well as the comment by Nici M about having neither the depth nor the warmth!!! (For the sensitive souls among us who are upset by pvssy I have spared you the actual wording on the sign and in the comment as that may have truly sent you over the edge.)

So indicative of his character; Obama, Biden, HRC honoring those murdered after the Pulse massacre; Donald's reaction was "accepting congrats" for the tragedy. You can read the tweet itself in my second pic.
