First off, i would like to thank everyone for the great information provided through these forums.

My girlfriend and I have been dating for 5 years now, and I am excited to take this next step in our relationship. I am trying to pick out the perfect ring for my girlfriend, and i was hoping for some help.

Well it has been narrowed down to two settings:

1:U-Prong Champaigne Pave by WF - With a shiny finish instead of satin

2:Platinum Heavy "Tiffany" Style

I have found the diamond that i think would go great with #1, but was hoping for some opinions.

Report: AGS
Shape: A Cut Above H&A
Carat: 0.556
Color: H
Clarity: VS2
Depth: 61
Table: 55.5
Crown Angle: 34.9
Crown %: 15.6
Pavilion Angle: 40.8
Pavilion %: 43
Girdle: Thin to Medium Faceted
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Culet: Pointed

As for the second setting, I haven't really looked into the diamond for it because I am leaning more towards the other. I would prefer a higher quality ring/diamond, but I am worried that the 1/2 carat will look too small. I have a financial limit of about $3500, so all thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi, I won''t comment on the diamond ''cause I don''t know much about rounds. However, my opinion would be to go with a thinner band on the ring. That will help to make your diamond "pop" and look bigger. Both of those settings look kind of bulky to me. And I''m sure WF could custom make both of them a little more delicate. Unless of course your GF has told you that she is in love with 1 of these settings. Then I would get what she has her heart set on.

Welcome to PS

Very nice diamond choice! As to the setting, Jazmine is right, the thinner the band the more the diamond will pop, so this is a consideration. I love both settings, but especially I have a thing for the Champagne

I agree if she has expressed a preference, get her what she wants, but again talk to WF and see if they can modify the settings a little if that is what you want. Either way, lovely diamond choice and great classic settings - the ring will be wonderful!

The numbers on that diamond look good. I would ask WF''s opinion on how that size stone would look in those settings. That champagne one is gorgeous!!!

I defnitely like the plain solitaire better for the diamond you picked- but I happen to be a big fan of simple settings-I do agree with Jazmine though, whatever setting you choose and if you FI likes it, get a thinner band. The thinness of the band will really make the diamond stand out more!

I adore the champagne setting as general rule. But for your project I agree with the others about asking WF how the champagne setting would look. I do thing the inset diamonds in the champage setting will give you more 'bling' and make the ring look much more unique-- but I'm afraid that a setting that heavy would overpower that diamond. I will say that actually a shiny finish is NOT a good idea-- it will compete with your diamond for shine where a satin finish would showcase the diamond. So I would definitely ask WF their opinion.

You diamond is about .5 mm smaller than my asscher as far as spread goes though... and that band is 3.8 mm at the top... so it may not be bad at all. Especially with the bling of the diamonds in the seting (definately do not go with a shiny finish though). I personally, think I would prefer this-- now that I look at numb ers more carefully. It's a much more expensive looking set. You'd be againing about .5 of spread with a larger diamond-- but losing the rich unique heavy and stunning look of this setting. Overall, as a package, I think this is the better choice.

As for a diamond for the scond setting... well it's a much less expensive setting-- and would allow you a larger stone. http://www.whiteflash.com/round/Round-cut-diamond-2377648.htm (I am not at all versed in round diamonds so this is just one that seemed okay).

Thanks for all the responses everyone, it has really helped me in my decision. I have decided to go with the champaigne setting if they are able to customize it. I am going to see if they would be able to either have it be 2.5mm width throughout, or taper from 2.5mm at the top. Also, after everyone twisting my arm

I am going to end up going with the satin finish.

I really hope that Whiteflash can do this for me.
