First off, this site is a goldmine for people who wish to be well informed for purchasing an engagement ring. I started off by going to the Diamond District in NYC and there is tons that they don't tell you that you'll find on here. Thanks for all the great information!

I brought my girlfriend when I went to the diamond district to find out which styles she liked, and we took a few pictures of the settings of rings she really liked. We found quite a few that she liked- and almost all of them followed the same pattern. They were all either pave or channel set soltaires with engraving on the side which kept the diamond close to the finger. Below is the picture of her favorite one, so you can see a sample of the style:

With my lack of trust in the Diamond District, I have been searching online for quite some time and have yet to find anything quite like the one shown above. The closest I can find is this one from James Allen, which looks to be a bit too offset from the finger in the pictures. I can't find any real pictures of this ring to really judge- only the CAD stuff with a diamond of unknown size.

Have you seen anything that fits this bill?

Thanks!

Hello Rikong,

I have been looking at settings similar for my diamond as well. What you have picked out is tapered. They are hard to find but I finally found one and tried it on just 2 days ago. It was very pretty. The one you reference from JA is not tapered wider near the center stone like your girlfriend picked out. If you find a Gttlieb dealer, they can send a sterling silver replica to the jewelry store for you to look at before you order it.

whats your budget?

Trasid: Thanks for the reply, that looks like a very good fit! There's a gottlieb dealer right down the road from where I live- I'll have to see if they have any of these or could get one to look at.

nielseel: My budget for the band is 2k. As far as the stone goes: I'm waiting on some idealscope images to pick one, but I'm looking at a few ~.9ct ideal cut vs1/2 g/h round stones.

The gottlieb here was a bit expensive for our budget. All our money went to the diamond. The palladium was less expensive at around $2,000 with the platinum about twice that. Gabriel and Sons and their Amavida line were more within our budget. Both looked nice in real life though. If you want you can save a few dollars by going with a H or I diamond and a SI1 clarity (I went with an I color, SI2 eye clean clarity) but as another pricescoper wrote "cut is king" so go with an ideal cut no matter what.

Is that openwork/filigree underneath the basket? Vatche has some rings with a filigree feel like that.

What is wrong with me. Beverly k! Fabulous vintage styles and more affordable than some others

Trasid- Great finds... the ER8827W44JJ looks perfect except, with the possible exception of how vulnerable the diamond looks suspended like that.
neilseel- I looked at Beverly K and they may actually be too vintage looking. Thanks for the suggestion though!
VRBeauty- That one looks amazing! I actually emailed a local Sylvie dealer to check one out in person next week. The only possible showstopper here is the very suspended looking diamond- she really liked ones with the diamond close to the finger and

I'm also considering two others: the Tacori 2616, although its on the higher side of what I'm comfortable spending, and a Brilliant Earth one.

I think I have enough leads to make a good purchase sometime in the next few weeks, but if anyone has anything else please post it. Here are more pictures from her pinterest of rings that she likes, although I think the Sylvie or Gabriel NY ones might take the cake.

Thanks again for all the help!

I found the Sylvie ring on a PS sponsor's site, but I think it's a relatively unknown line here. If you do get to see it in person, please report back and let us know what you thought of it! (Brownie points if you come back with pictures :wink2:  )

Good find! She really likes this one I know. This may be a silly question, but because the diamond is shrouded on all sides but the top in this setting, would it have less shimmer in the light? I know that diamonds refract light from all different sources, so my thinking is that there will be no light coming in from the sides to reflect.

Not a silly question. All settings block light to some degree, but the majority of the light performance is determined by the light coming from the top, should have a noticeable effect on the performance

I just wanted to update this topic- I wound up ordering the Sylvie SY886 with a .76ct ideal SI1 G. It came out AMAZING- thank you all so much for helping me find the perfect ring! As promised, here are pictures to help anyone looking at this brand. It is very high quality and looks amazing.
