And once you've managed to garner the wisdom of them, post stones WITH PICTURES and we can help you. Or ask us to find stones in your budget for you, and we can do that too.

Of course Gypsy's advice is always spot on. Some quick and simple notes to start, it is different than picking a round stone-for emerald cut diamonds, it challenging to find an eye clean SI-2 emerald cut, or even SI-1 in many cases. You also want to make sure that you work with a vendor who provides photo/video/ASET's. Enjoy and good luck!

You have a great budget to work with and 2+ carat emerald cut stone will look amazing! I know its tempting to go with the biggest stone you can, but I would encourage you to balance that desire with insuring you buy a stone with very good proportions, eye clean, and maximum performance. Emerald cuts are very tricky stones and a poor stone can read very flat. There are no set standards for what is ideal as preference has changed over time, but there are good guidelines to adhere to, with your eyes being the absolute best authority on what's "ideal" to you. For example, I prefer the vintage look of stones with a ratio of 1.50, but modern preference is for a stone with a ratio around 1.30. It's important to know what you like and go from there.

From the stones you selected, I have two pieces of constructive feedback. There are very few SI2 emerald cut stones that are clean enough to use as a primary stone. I've seen SI1 stones with promise, but they are often better suited as accent stones. In terms of color, you can go warmer than an "H", but you should only consider stones with some fluorescence if you do-- it will off-set that warmth and make the stone appear brighter/whiter. By going warmer, with fluorescence, you will find value and be able to get a larger stone. That's where I would compromise.

If you have some flexibility, I'm a big fan of sourcing a piece on the secondary market and avoiding hefty retail mark-ups that you seldom recover. A $20K+ ring is a big investment. You never know the future or whether you may need to turn that ring into liquidity, or wish to do an upgrade.

If you're willing to consider pre-loved:

Both at Betteridge, a reliable estate vendor always willing to negotiate from their published price:

If you can stretch your budget and make an offer in the range of $25K there is good inherent value with this square emerald cut, it s a signed piece which will hold its value and the specs look great:

I hope this is helpful! Best wishes in your search!!!

SI2 in an EC will not be eyeclean. You need to stick to VS2 or better.

Your budget is low for the size you want.

Pick one of these of you can stretch your budget a little (20K) :

The hold should be released on them within the next few days. There is an ASET posted of each of them in the threads I linked to you. And the Customer is not buying them as he bought something else.

You original post had diamonds from 16k to 20k.

15k is going to mean compromise on color or carat. PLEASE NOTE: YOU COMPARE EMERALDS NOT BY CARAT WEIGHT BUT BY DIMENSIONS.

THESE YOU WILL HAVE TO PUT ON HOLD AND ASK FOR AN ASET IMAGE. Do not buy without one.

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/2.01-carat-j-color-vs2-clarity-sku-350862 Nice and has medium blue to help it.
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/1.80-carat-i-color-vs1-clarity-sku-328235
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/1.82-carat-g-color-vs1-clarity-sku-302757 I think this one is going to have a P3 issue.

YOU ONLY GET THREE ASETS PER PURCHASE SO KEEP THAT IN MIND AND CHOSE CAREFULLY.

At and around two carats you want 8x6 ish stones. .2mm less is okay too.
