Hi,

I have 2 stones that I am deciding between and wanted to get your feedback. To make it easier lets just say that both of the stones performs exactly the same so no need to compare that.

What I want help to decide on are which one is the better to go with then it comes to Prize, size and to keep the value over long run.

Candidate 1

Carat Weight: 1.90 Carats
Clarity: VS2
Color: G
Dimensions: 7,34 x 6,97 x 4,85mm.
Faceup: 51.16
Table: 50%
Depth: 69.6%
Ratio: 1.05
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Price: 19500 USD

Candidate 2

Carat Weight: 2.01 Carats
Clarity: VS2
Color: G
Dimensions: 7,27x7,25X5,04mm.
Faceup: 52.6
Table: 55%
Depth: 69.6%
Ratio: 1.00
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Price: 23000 USD

The price difference between these 2 are 13% or 3500 USD but the face up size is only 3% bigger. The 1.90 carat have a ratio on 1.05 but the 2.01 is perfect square with 1.00 in ratio.

So there is a big price difference but that is probably what you pay to say that you have a 2 carat stone. But is it worth the extra money? It will sit in my wife's engagement ring.

So will i regret it to save the 3500 USD, or wil I be clever to take the 3500 USD and spend them on a trip where I can make an amazing proposal?!

What would your thought be? Guys would you take the smaller option? Girls would you be unhappy getting a just below 2 carat stone for that price and not being able to say 2 Carat?

Please give me some insight to this dilemma that I am having...

Regards

Is "True Antique" a brand or do you mean they are genuine, real antique cushions? If the latter, I want to see photos to vote.

Can you ask the preference of the intended wearer?

I'm a guy and I would say just go with the 1.9 carat. To the naked eye, you wont be able to tell a huge difference, if any, between the 2.01 carat and the 1.9 carat. I am too about to propose and have a 1.83 carat round cut. To me, I can barely tell the difference between a 1.83 carat and a 1.95 carat. I say use the extra money on a great vacation somewhere that both of you will remember for the rest of your lives and propose there.

Not to make your life harder, but take this one into consideration, as well.

This stone has the same weight as the larger stone, but includes performance analysis, so that you aren't guessing as to the stone's quality, and is about $2k less expensive:

2.01ct, G, VS2

There may not be as much of a noticeable face up difference in rounds, but with cushions (especially antique cushions) the same carat weight may have extremely different face up dimensions so that is a better measure of size than just carat weight. Cushions do need to be evaluated by more than just the numbers.

OP the 1.90 generally looks pretty nice. The only thing that concerns me is that it is VS2 but I can see a black spec on the bottom and also some white inclusions possibly at the 5 o'clock area.

Are you looking for a more rectangular or square cushion? The 1.90 is a rectangular but your 2.01 is a square cushion. Additionally, you can't really go into the diamond search looking for something to "keep its value" because unless you go with a vendor that has a 100% trade in policy, you won't be able to recoup most of what you initially paid. Just try to find what is the best value for the money *now*.

They are cut according to the GIA standards to get the Old Mine Brilliant shape and cutting style.

I have attached the picture of the 1.90 G VS2

So they are modern, newly cut stones then? It matters. Modern cuts, even cut to old style, will often have a similar look to them. So then seeing the pictures doesn't matter too much to deciding between the two. But true old cuts vary widely in facet pattern and appearance, even two that receive the same cut label from GIA.

And, can you ask the preference of the intended wearer?

Here is another from ERD: faces up very large...another vendor known for their nice antique cut cushions:

I guess my vote would be for the larger one but would have to see them side by side. Sorry when i click on your pdf nothing is there.

+1. These are not antique cushions but modern cuts made to look antique. Huge difference!

Now when you mentioning the white inclusions at 5 o'clock I see them also. I have a video from the stone and in that video I see them even better... I thought that a stone that is VS2 would not have any visible inclusions. Did I misunderstand this?

Why not? Pretty sure Leon accepts stones from ERD. He set my antique cushion from JBEG. If you search the forum, I am certain others have rings made by Leon, but with stones from ERD.
