I really had my heart set on this dress, if I could get it made with the black lace over a champagne or gold underlay. I can''t find a store in San Diego that carries the dress so I can try it on to see the quality of the lace. The closest I could find was a store about 90 minutes away with the ivory lace over champagne. My concern is having them make the dress with the black lace over ivory. Even with a rush I am afraid I wouldn''t get it in time for the 7/25/08 wedding. Do you think I should have it made locally? Has anyone had an experience in hiring a seamstress to make a dress? Is that a good idea? This is the dress I want...really bad...again, with a champagne or gold underneath instead of platinum.

I can''t find anything else like it online.

Have you asked the store to contact the company? I am buying one of their dresses without sleeves and they agreed to sell me some yardage so I could make my own. It might be worth a try.

I think a seemstress could do it if they could find the right lace, but it would be tricky since it is different in the middle from the rest. I don''t think it would take too long to make, just material gathering would be my concern.

Good luck, it really is a lovely dress.

Well, I started by looking up all stores that carried Montage, since their is no contact info on their site, that I could find anyway. Everyone had the same response which was "We can order it for you" meaning you can buy it and we can get it. But I really want to try the dress on first before plunking down the cash.

I didn''t think to ask the bridal salons to contact the maker and see what other options I had. I will do that tomorrow. If we get lucky enough after picking up chargers and meeting with another florist tomorrow, we may even have time to make the drive to try the one dress that we located in Costa Mesa. who has one in stock that I can try on.

I do live close to the border, so taking the picture to Tijuana has been on my mind a lot, but that''s a serious risk, unless I bring along a savvy mexicana friend, and I do have a few of those.

I just can''t stand all the taffeta MOB dresses. This fits our theme, my daughter loves it, thinks it''s perfect for the wedding and for me. ::::heavy sigh:::::

If all else fails, could you order it, find a backup dress to wear in case you don''t like it when it comes in, and return the one you don''t end up wearing?

Montage keeps samples of their dresses in a warehouse and if you pay the cost of freight, some places will order a sample for you to try.

I know what you mean about taffeta. I was shocked when the dress I ordered was taffeta because I really wasn''t looking for it. All I can think of is that scene from young Frankenstein where he tries to hug her:
Elizabeth: Taffeta, darling.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Taffeta, sweetheart.
Elizabeth: [pulling away] No, the dress is taffeta. It wrinkles so easily.

hahaha, Frankenstein....not the look I am going for on my daughter''s big day

Sabine: The bridal salons in San Diego should be named "Nazi Bridal". They won''t order any of the dresses in unless you pay for them and they have a "No Return" policy. I begged a few of them to order the dress because it is so beautiful that many San Diego MOB''s would love them, but they declined unless I paid to have the dress ordered.

Another option would be for me to find a spaghetti straped base dress in store locally and then have the lace overlay/bolero made to go over it, so that it is similiar to the dress. There just isn''t enough time between now and the date to get a definitive. Everyone tells me I have to give at least 4 months, but we have exactly that much time, and that is too close for comfort. After reading these boards and finding out how many times the dress doesn''t come in on time...I am too scared to take that chance, especially knowing that I can''t bring it back.

I have a few back up choices, but they are just that...back-up. Not exactly the place I want to be when I have to walk my daughter down the aisle.

But I have high hopes, I have high hopes, I have something apple pie in the sky...hopes...

Okay, so just to confirm you want something with the lace and then champagne or ivory underneath?

Oh, the dress Goddess....

Yes, I would love a champagne/gold with a black lace overlay. I really have stupid petty upper arm issues, but I also get hotflashes

, so I need something lite, hence the lace. I have a very nice long black dress black dress from Cache, but it doesn''t have a bolero top like the one at Montage.

I found a nice dress from Maggie Sotero, but it was a bridal gown and although I loved the top...it is gorgeous, it doesn''t come in black and I have no intention of looking like a bride at my daughter''s wedding. But I am walking down the stairs/aisle.

I like the first one. I wish the second one was long. My daughter prefers I wear a long dress. Which is better, because the last time I bought a just below knee dress for a wedding, I noticed that I had a huge greenish bruise the size of a small apple on the back of my calf.

Thank gawd I turned around to look in the full length mirror before I walked out the door. I had to switch dresses and go long at the last minute.

This is the color of the BM dresses so I don''t want to be off. This is why black is safer...

OMG, I really, really love all three of the jimhjelm dresses...
I mean really love them.

I am going to start looking for them in the morning. I will just have to work out with a trainer to get my upper arms in better shape.

YOU GIRLS ROCK!!!!
35.gif

I''m sending them to my daughter right now, while this darn sleep medication takes effect.

Oh yeah I am about to take Tylenol PM I think. I am feeling so dizzy from my ears being blocked up and I need to fall asleep.

Okie dokie artichoke...
My daughter met me at store for lunch and we found *one* dress that was a possibility. One of my assts had fun making a face on me... the nut.. It is sort of like the first jim hjelm dress that was posted above, but I didn''t put my hair up so you could see the back. It needs a bit of altering and I need a few pounds off the gut, and it would be sooooo easy to put lace sleeves on it. In fact, the way the dress is constructed it would be super easy. I am just not a huge fan of the whole open back thing and the front. But my daughter thought it would be good back up for the price.

Oh yeah, my hair is a mess in these pictures, but it is also the "reddish" phase before you can take a blonde to brown without getting green.

So pay no attention to the gross hair.

You''re nuts! Your arms look great!

I think it''s beautiful! What does your daughter''s dress look like? You won''t outshine her will you?
31.gif
If her dress is formal then I say go for it.

Holy cow you look gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love it. And your arms look fine!!!

Wow, thanks you gals...
I still feel so EXPOSED!! I made the mistake of going to "Prevue" after work. Booo..... They had some nice wedding dresses though!!

I could never outshine my daughter. This is her dress...

I absolutely agree!

It''s Maggie Sottero, and it''s from her "Flirt" line. There is another one that I saw in her book that I would prefer, and it is similiar but without the back exposed and without the lace around the front. I can''t complain because it wasn''t even $300 and had built in Tata''s!!! Yayayayayay. That was worth the price right there.
31.gif
I have to say, I tried on one other dress from her "Flirt" line and it fit me "like a glove" but it wasn''t even close to the "Inspiration Board", so we passed. But dang, I felt like I could "Kill Bill" in that dress and not get uncomfortable.
36.gif

I have made the decision to drive up to L.A. to try on the dress I really wanted, which I could wear for the next 10 or so years. I can''t see me wearing this dress beyond one day, and that''s "no bueno".
14.gif

But my daughter really likes this dress on me...and since everyone knows I am sucker for my kidlet, despite my strangle thread, ultimately I will do whatever it takes to make her happy. Even if it means exposing my backside to the world.
30.gif

I just wanted to say that you look terrific! I need to get in shape before my daughter decides to make me a MOB! I will say that I adore the first dress you posted, though. It is gorgeous and my favorite of all that were posted!

Diamondseeker: 12K posts?!?!?!? I am bowing right now.... Really. Seriously. In front of my empty plate of Salmon on top of Arugula.
18.gif

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for affirming what I really want. Although, I know that the original would require the time to custom make, I swear I would pay $$$ for it to manifest itself.
7.gif

I would feel like Catherine Zeta-Jones in Zorro.
9.gif
Okay, maybe that''s a stretch<----(had to check dictionary. com for that one)
6.gif

But it''s my only child..and the only wedding (I will ensure this by making them sign a legally enforceable contract that if they divorce, they have to pay me back)
27.gif

I want another diamond. The only ones I have inhabit a peace sign...and one fell out...Booooo, back to Costco you go!!
