Tricks to photographing diamonds?????

I am having a heck of a time getting a half decent pic of my ring to post. Is it my camera or a problem in general. In the close up and auto settings the camera WILL NOT focus in on the diamond no matter what I do. All the pics look super muddy.

Does anyone have any tricks or tips to getting a goo pic???
