trellis setting question

hello!
I didn't really know which thread to post this into so if this has already been asked before I'm sorry for wasting your time but I have this lovely tanzenite I wish to set into a trellis setting with 2 diamonds beside it (still have to get the diamonds) and the trellis setting is my absolute favourite and from all the photos I've seen for concept they all have basket settings and I was wondering if it is mandatory to have a basket setting with a trellis ring?

I don’t believe so no. I’ve seen plenty of trellis settings supported by just prongs.

I think the pro of a basket setting is being able to have a lower-profile ring with greater durability as the stones have better protection.

But I think basket-less trellis settings are really pretty!
