Transitional Diamond?

I purchased a ring with a GIA certed center stone that is called a RB, but am wondering if the experts would call her a Transitional cut?

She has a frosty bruted girdle, large table and is a shallow stone with a cute cutlet.

Can you post the cert showing the stats. I have one similar, called a round brilliant by GIA, but I think it's more of a transitional. I have never really known what to call it but I wouldn't call it a round brilliant. I'm interested to see what the experts would call yours and if it's similar to mine.

Thank you. Our stones are different, but I am still curious what folks call yours. Face up they don't look all that different to me really. Whatever yours is called, I really like it and from what I can see of the setting, I really like that too.

@Lookinagain Thanks it is an SS Arielle setting. Still deciding of I’m going to keep it as is(needs resizing) the setting is beautiful with little OEC’s in the band, reset her or return it.

Hi-yes it was! The setting is lovely and the center diamond is also It is a 4.44ct VS1 Fancy Brownish Yellow. The rainbow flashes she gives off are stunning!

I am pondering returning for two reasons, every now and again she has a grey cast to her and she has no fluor so it isn’t that causing it but it makes her look a bit dirty or hazy but not very often. And the other is kind of a weird reason- but when I’ve been wearing her I have had this feeling of sadness or agitation!!! Kind of tough to explain and it sounds crazy but at first I dismissed it and then I couldn’t, really strange! She was in terrible need of a bath when she arrived but a good soak didn’t seem to help that weirdness.

I don't think that sounds crazy at all. It looks like a beautiful ring but I think diamonds should make us smile, not weigh us down. Maybe by the end of the return period you'll be feeling cheery about this one, if not, I'm sure there is another stone/ring out there!

Yes all the diamonds posted in this thread are transitional cuts likely cut in the 1920s to 1930s based on the larger tables and short lower halves. GIA does not have a cut category for these, which are technically early round brilliants. But in the antique diamonds world they are totally transitionals.

This is an American Cut per Al Gilbert’s book! Same as mine. Likely 1920s.

She is a pretty stone most of the time, the grey cast she has now and again is a little weird to me-this is better now that she has had a bath.

And of course I meant “fancy color” transitional.

Have you washed her with a little household ammonia in the water? It cleans better than anything else.

Fancy color diamond were my first love, then I discovered old cuts and those stole my heart so any time I can combine the two I get pretty excited
