Following in the footsteps of our other popular trade thread and in the honor of the upcoming 4th of July, trade members please post your ONE favorite Red, White, and/or Blue piece!

For this series of threads alone, we are lifting our policy of not allowing trade to show their own items. A little fun!


The rules:

1. Trade may post their ONE favorite piece in their store/of their own in this thread. No prices, no "selling", but descriptions are welcomed!
2. ONE link to the item on your website is allowed if you wish.
3. Photos must be posted directly in this thread
4. All other PS rules apply.

HAVE FUN and don't mess with my rules so we can do this more often.

Mine is white! My personal wedding set, in platinum, featuring a 2.32ct OEC, GIA K, VS1, set in a Sholdt semibezel with pave, paired with two different platinum Sholdt bands. I never tire of staring at this set! And even though I chose white, you can see from the fire shot that this stone shoots plenty of colors, including red and blue, so I guess it's really all three colors!

Two times two carat pigeon blood no-heat Burma

In 2011 I was asked to hunt for two matching 2+ carat GRS certified unheated pigeon blood Burma rubies.

I took the next flight to Bangkok.

Despite the healthy budget it was a challenge. Even one such ruby is a tough call. Two is a miracle.

After 4 weeks of pestering everybody and anybody I heard whispers of a pair that might fit the bill.

The seller was in a hyper security building with no name off Silom road. I had to go through several intermediaries vouching for me to get an appointment.

An old Burmese Madam with pigeon blood in her veins showed me into her office. I had never seen such a place. Really intimidating for a pale foreigner sweating in his shorts. I felt like a barbarian. These old Burmese families live in a different dimension or century.

An assistant showed me the two stones. Aaaaaahhh!

Then, Royal Burmese Madam casually named a price. It was tight but within my budget.

I raced into my hotel to confirm with the US client.

Deal! They agreed to wire the money same day.

I raced back to Royal Burmese Madam.

BANG: While I was gone, the price had increased by 30%.

I raced back .... etc. etc.

In the end, we made it, but I got myself a few grey hairs those days....

This is one of the two after setting. Don't ask why I can't show both after setting. That is another story.

LOL, yeah, terrible. But it really is another story and it touches my clients, so I can't talk about it. It all ended well, that much I can say.

I did the setting of the first stone myself, that's why I had the chance to make the photo. However, here is some more insight:



I did see the pair later after the second ruby was set. Basically you could just copy/paste the one I made.
They were twins. Terrific twins!

My favorite right now is a big white transitional cut 2.25 K/VVS2 set in platinum fleur de lis prongs with " light red" gold Marrakesh paved shoulders and a platinum shank. There's some blue in that diamond though, as it does exhibit strong blue florescence!!

Dear god, is that thing GORGEOUS! I have never seen a shank like that before -- sheer elegance! And those three-pronged prongs.. like little tulip buds waiting to bloom... sigh...

My personal all time favorite we did was the Deco Empire, but I posted that in another thread, so I'm going with my favorite blue stone ring. We did this ring for a client using a Chatham sapphire center. What I like about it is that at the 9 and 3 o'clock position there are pear cut diamonds instead of rounds going all the way around, and it's a low set ring.

I am rarely a fan of yellow and red metals but that looks amazing!

Is it possible to indicate ballpark figures for a setting like this? (excluding rock!)

Thanks to everyone else for the kind words. I love ruby with diamonds and yellow gold.
Too bad I cant post 2 for wifey4evr has a concave cut blue topaz necklace that I gave her that if I do say so myself is awesome.
When she is singing in church and the spot lights hit it you would never guess it was topaz it glows and flashes.
Its on the board someplace under strmrdr.
