Trade in or Upgrade Information Needed

Hi Everyone. I am new to PRICESCOPE and am already addicted to this webiste!
First of all, please accept my poor English as I am not from English Speaking Country.

I have question regarding upgraing system you guys have in your country. ( I tink most of you are from USA) I have never heard of " Upgrading" or "Trade-in" in my country. However, it seems very popular/common in USA.

I wonder how it works.

Can you upgrade your ring only if you go back to the same Jewerly shop where you bought your ring from or Can you bring you ring to any Jewerly shop to get appraisal and you pay the difference for the new one you want to get?

I have beautiful diamond. 0.9CT E/VS1/3EX GIA and wonder If I could upgrade to a bigger stone in the future. ( if I fly to USA lol)
If I sell my diamond here, they would buy it for very little money and I could never afford to get any bigger one.

Please kindly advice.

you have to check with the store you purchased from. Another route could be to sell your stone to a store, consign with someone like JbEG, or sell privately.

Upgrading only works with the jeweler from whom you buy the stone, but all jewelers in the US do not offer that option. And sometimes it is a very bad idea because if you overpay for the first stone, then you are sort of locked in to a jeweler and may also overpay for the second stone. Some of our vendors here on PriceScope have excellent and fair upgrade policies, though. I agree with Amy that you might be able to sell your diamond in the US and even get back what you paid, especially if it was bought more than a year ago since prices increased greatly in 2011.

Perry Chen at Leon Mege sold my diamond for me. He'll take it around to cutters and give you offers. That's one option aside from consigning with him, GOG, JBEG.....He didn't require that I buy the new stone from him, but he also had great prices so it worked out well.....
