I have been communicating with an ebay seller that offered me a round, 1.31 ct., E, SI-1, untreated, unenhanced diamond for $3700 dollars (this is all that I know about the diamond). I questioned him on the low price but he said that because they sell such large qualtities of diamonds they are able to sell at a lower price. Also, this seller has glowing customer reviews. I have e-mailed many of their past customers and they have been very happy or at the very least, honored their return policy. The diamond was graded by D.I.A. I have never heard of D.I.A. before. The seller also said that they follow G.I.A. very closely except they use SI3. They also have a 30-day return policy. What do you all think about this?

Run - don't walk - away from this guy.
Something is VERY fishy there!
An 1.31 E SI1 for $3700 - no friggin' way.
(Pscope says 1.30 E SI1 GIA - $7600 - 8300 for an average cut stone (not ideal or H&As cut))

I've never heard of DIA. Has anyone?

Scintillating...

Scintillating gave you the best advice you could get. RUN.......DO NOT PASS GO. There are loads and loads of horror stories of people who gave their hard earned dollars to Ebay sellers who had stellar reviews, only to find they''d been swindled, the item was nowhere near what was promised and getting their money back was more than a nightmare.

Now, if $3700 is a sum of money you can readily afford to lose, go for it. Otherwise, DO NOT put yourself through this likely nightmare.

Yup run away and don''t look back!!!

Red flags as far as the eye can see.

I just love the "DIA" certificate.

It reminds of the "Louis Vitton" [sic] handbag that I so naively bought in NYC Chinatown when I was a teenager.

Just do a search on Pricescope using the word ebay to see all the horror story threads that are associated with people that have purchased diamonds/rings on that site. I came close myself to making the same mistake before I stumbled accross pricescope. All I can say is THANK GOD I found this site before I purchased a ring on ebay. Read the advanced tutorial on this site regarding cut and you''ll see why there is no possible way they are offering you a decently cut diamond at that price.

Please run like a puma.

you should be totally nervous. Ebay is risky for pro''s who know what they are looking for, even more so for average consumers. We''ve heard way to many stories of purchases, stone doesn''t check out, and then the bidder has a very hard time getting a refund. many sellers take the money and run. I just wouldn''t risk $3700 on ebay.

The DIA ("Diamond Institute of America") is not even listed with the better business bureau.

As an E-bay addict, I learned NOT to buy nor sell things on there that I cannot afford to "eat" the cost of. It''s great for new kids clothes, inexpensive electronics, and other little hard to find and discontinued items. However, I would stay away from ebay if you want a quality diamond. I bought a diamond from a seller with 100% feedback before I found PS, but was fortunate enough to get all my money back. Once I got the ring and took it to my local jeweler, I realized the guy was selling CE diamonds (but only disclosing it in the fine print) and grading it as a VS1 when it was more of an I2. Turns out his 100% feedback is loaded with retractions by threatening his former customers to retract negative feedack or they won''t get their refunds. It''s just not worth it. Just walk away.

Actually I cannot even find a business listing for the diamond institute of america - if that isn''t fishy then I don''t know what is.

It''s a trap, get an axe.

It''s sooooo not worth it. Buy from someone you trust and pay more, but get what you are paying for.

Thanks all! I hear you loud and clear! No ebay diamonds for me. Thanks for the help.
