Hello,

I am in the market for an engagement ring. I have been to Spence but I am wondering if there is somewhere better?

What is Diamonds for Less on Shuter St in Toronto like? I do not want to buy online. Can I get a decent ring on a 4K budget?

I don't know about the place you mention on Shuter St., but I have been very comfortable purchasing online - thanks to all the advice from the people here on Pricescope. I was able to get a GORGEOUS ring for a fraction of the price that I would have paid here in Toronto. You could also look for 'pre-loved' - again, my experience with that has also been good. Even though I have ordered from the US, the duty has been very reasonable. if you post information with your budget and the type of ring you are looking for, you will get lots of valuable advice!!

I believe there is a diamond district in Toronto. I don't have the information for TO but in Montreal the diamond district in downtown near the Bay. Friends have purchased rings there for half of the price of retail. The hour are not great but worth it.
(Sorry I didn't reply but google diamonds and it should come up.)

There is not diamond district in Toronto
There is no special place in Toronto to go shopping for diamonds

Of course there is a diamond district in Toronto (and it is not much smaller than other big cities). Part of it is across the street from Eaton's Center. Then there are other buildings around 55 Queen Street East.

Maybe I should have said "diamond district" instead of diamond district in my earlier post. To expand, a friend of a friend is a jewelery designer and worked in a co-op with other small independent jewelers. She mentioned that whenever I got around to buying a diamond ring, she could get me a good deal since her building is full of diamond dealers. However, we have lost touch and I am not sure where the co-op was located.
Good luck in your search, the jeweler you mentioned has very good reviews online.

Are you serious that you want to call that mall like area across from the Eaton Centre a "diamond district"?

A bunch of people that can't afford a store renting those little booth like things with 100 square feet of space hawking who know what sort of table scraps a "diamond district"?

... but I could be wrong ... maybe it has improved significantly over the last three years since I was there last

There are also a bunch of other buildings around. You have been to NYC Diamond District - it is not too different. Nor is Chicago or even LA except they have bigger and more buildings. Same thing ... a whack of stands in a building and then the "dealers" in closed offices on the higher floors.

When my wife and I were in that area we happened to stop by a place called Lejend Diamond Jewellery in Courtice (I think it's a suburb of Toronto). While the location is no diamond district, they had a good selection of stones/rings and could pretty much do what any other reputable store can do...which is source more stones and make custom pieces. But more importantly, the owner came across as very honest and genuine person, and he was great to have a conversation with. It's seldom that you don't feel like a fish on the end of a fishing lure in this industry, so it's nice to deal with people like that. If you do go, ask for Yevgeni (the owner) and mention their friends from Chicago, and I am sure you'll have a very nice experience.

Oh this is their website I think http://www.lejendjewellery.com/index.html
