i dont know what it is with fitted sheets but i fight them too
i always end up with them on the wrong way and they ping off

or if i do get them on they wait till 1am to ping off and roll us up

And the game wouldnt work with a fitted sheet
Kitty cant get out the bottom of the bed as eaiserly

Are your sheets stressed D & D? Take it easy girl! You and Gary need to give them a rest.:lol-2::razz:;));));))

Are you sure they are deep enough? if they are the right size, they shouldn't "ping" off.

year ive done something wrong when i brought them
i didnt know to factor this in
plus we got new beds and they have deep mattresses
the thing with flat sheets is you just thorw them on and tuck them in

:lol-2: well actually he sleeps light but like a log and i toss and turn and make funny noises when i have hay fevor:lol-2:- thats why we have a bed each in two seperate rooms:(2
the cats wonder between them and 'their own' bed in the spair room
so we have tons of sheets because when we brought the beds i bought a couple of new sets and then i found a moving box full of brand new sheets in the bottom of the linen cupbard i had forgotten about from years ago
i rotate the sheets religously, but save the nicer newer ones for Gary's bed as i get bleeding noses with the hay fevor :(2
but last winter i brought some of those polar flannel ones and they kept us all so warm but they only came as sets with the dreaded fitted sheet
making the bed went from a cat game to a very unenjoyable workout :lol-2:

Oh we've all made mistake with sheets.
spread sheets
fitted sheets
cheat sheets
time sheets....................

Always. I can’t imagine not using a top sheet. I have pure white 100% long staple cotton (from Portugal) blankets. I would never want them touching our naked skin :lol-2:

okay, well this confuses me. If my hotel changes my top and bottom sheets, isn't that as clean as a hotel that changes the bottom sheet and the duvet cover?
No -- because I have certainly made "skin contact" with a duvet cover (at hotels and relatives' houses) that is not routinely washed. I guess we could sleep like the dead with our hands across our (own) chests and the top sheet folded over a few inches -- like what you see when you first walk into a hotel room -- but we never seem to wake up like that.

I am not all in on this approach (meaning I do not care a whole lot) but it has a breezy and kinda sexy feel. We enjoyed it on holiday so we adopted it at home.

The "ick" vibe from @Daisys and Diamonds suggested to me that she felt she would be sleeping against a dirty (infrequently changed) duvet cover. I have stayed in a hundred HomeAways, VRBOs, AirBnB, etc., where the duvet cover was clearly not designed to be washed with every linen change. Maybe even dry clean only. So top and bottom sheet is nice but all bets are off when it comes to everything else.

I just mean that top sheet or no top sheet, when done right, the no-top-sheet is at least as clean since the bottom of the duvet cover is percale sheet material.

I like the extra layer in winter but not in summer -- we are in a mostly-no-AC climate.

If your five-star resort washes everything above the mattress every day, more power to you! We don't even ask for fresh towels. =)2

This is by far my longest post about bed linens on any forum :lol-2:

I can see you came over to the dark side of linens, the European way! ;)2
I didn't know what a top sheet was until I traveled and it stresses me out to imagine that I must not move in my sleep lest I touch the blanket/comforter/duvet that clearly looks nice but isn't made out if washable material. Positively disgusting.

Fresh and crisp duvet cover , buttoned at the bottom, so that the down duvet never touches anyone's skin - the only acceptable way for me.

I am confused about some of the posts. We wash our sheets (including duvet cover) at the same time. Top sheet, fitted sheet, duvet cover, pillow cases every five days. That is down from every day which I did during ringworm and continued for two full years. I finally stopped a few months ago deciding it was overkill. And a lot of work to do it every single day. It is not easy to put fitted sheets onto a King bed. But that is Greg's job. I just take the sheets etc off and wash and dry them and it is his job to remake the bed with the clean sheets.

Another thing I do not like while traveling. Yuck to the hotels that do not clean the duvet cover every single day. Blech.

And we do wash our actual comforter once a month. What can I say? I do like things to be clean.

I say nay, but the husband makes the bed so...i get the top sheet.

About hotels ...
I don't know whether there are city/county/state/federal laws about this, but I believe the following to be customary.

Sheets are replaced with freshly-laundered ones when guests check out.
They are also changed at some interval for multi-night stays, and perhaps by request.
I don't know what that interval is.

The blankets/duvets/comfortors and covers for those are not washed between guests.

But, if you request extra of any of the above it will be delivered freshly laundered.

However, I assume hospitals vary in policy and so do their housekeepers.
I also assume hotels like the 5-star Ritz has a more generous policy than Motel 6 has.

I assumed everyone always used a top sheet between their body and the blanket/comforter/duvet.
I am astonished that about a third don't.

People surly do vary. ;))

Now I'm tempted to start a poll about use of toilet paper vs. the left hand.
Don't worry, I won't. :knockout:
I don't want to know.

The duvet cover acts like the top sheet. It also keeps the top of the comforter clean from cats/animals on the bed, or kids climbing all over the bed, etc. (which top sheets don’t do). I wash it with the rest of the sheets. (The trick it to turn it inside out as you remove it, launder it that way, afix the far corners once clean, and then fold it right side out along with the duvet which ends up inside. I loved the simplicity of duvets plus covers when I lived in England and have used them for the last 30+ years.)

I agree, it depends on the hotel. I've stayed in hotels that left a little card on the nightstand that said if you don't want your sheets changed daily (to save on water) leave the card on the pillow and they won't change them that day. I've seen the same kind of cards in the bathroom regarding the towels.

Apologies @missy I wanted to reply & agree with what you have written but my naughty kitten Albert/Bertie was very involved so I gave up not realising he had caused my blank quotes.
Here’s a photo of my naughty boy - sorry for the diversion of the thread.

sheets are one thing but i have to have clean towels every single day - even if we are camping (and i dont mean glamping either)

Nope, never! My nightgowns are thick enough. :));)2 Although in any frigid weather, I might throw an extra throw blanket under the comforter. Oh and will wear socks too when it is cold. (by frigid I mean less than 50 degrees since I am in Texas).
