I used to get $1 too (sometimes a silver dollar, sometimes paper). My dad gave my brother $20 (by mistake) and said the TF must have won the lottery so not to expect it again!

My sister lost one of her teeth at school and lost it. She wrote a note to the TF and made her teacher sign it as a witness. My mom still has it.

Sheesh - I''m feeling really ripped off now! My sister and I (24 and 26 respectively) would get a quarter for a tooth. I can''t imagine leaving $10.00 under a child''s pillow for a tooth

I better tell hubby to start saving for tooth fairy money for our little one now - by then the norm will probably be $20+ eeek!

We got a quarter, too. But back then $.50 would buy you a little ice cream cone.
I really like the pink glitter dollar idea

Gosh, I got a quarter when I was a kid. And, I''m not that old.

I think the going rate in this area is a dollar a tooth, unless it had to be extracted or came out in an accident, then it''s five dollars.

One of my friends spreads glitter in a little path from the window to the pillow. I think that''s a cute idea.

There used to be a recorded phone line for you to call "The Tooth Fairy" when your tooth feel out. I used to love using it because my daughter would call and listen to the TF and then leave her a message to let her know that it would be under her pillow. I think I used to leave $1, I might have gone overboard a time or two.

There was a company in SF (I remember my friend''s mom hired them) where a woman comes dressed up as the tooth fairy comes, throws glitter, and educates on dental health. Not sure if they are still around though.

We plan to do $20 per tooth...which is the average in our area.

I only lost four teeth on my own, the rest had to by pulled by the dentist. SO, as an incentive the tooth fairy gave me $5 per tooth if I lost it on my own, as I''m sure the $5 was nothing compared to the cost of paying the dentist to pull it. I got $1 per tooth if it was pulled.

The best part was that my mom wrote teeny tiny little square letters on parchment paper to me from the tooth fairy. She also laminated them, and I still have them tucked away in my Hope Chest.

They said things like:

Dear Haven,

Thank goodness you didn''t lose this tooth last night--I had the most incredible date with the Muffin Man! He took me out for a delicious dinner and then we danced until dawn! He even held my hand on our magic carpet ride back to Fairyland.
This is a pretty little canine you''re giving me, it will look fabulous in my living room next to the molar you lost last month. Try to pull the next one out on your own, okay kiddo?

Love,
TF
That might be the funniest thing ever. I am going to do something like for my kids!

We used to have put ours in the window sill so it didn''t get lost under our pillow... We got .25/tooth. I am only 30, so this was in the 80s...seems like I got gipped!

I always got $20.00 for every tooth also. When I think about it, I wonder what on earth did I do with 20 bucks when I was 7 years old???
