Can you take someone with you to the meetup ... OR let the jeweler know someone is coming to meet you and then call the jeweler for a sneak peek review of the person before you go there yourself?

If its a specific time & not a well-traveled store, an accomplice could mug you while you''re heading toward the store. Like I said -- I''m paranoid. But I''m sure those Craigslist masseurs didn''t expect to get attacked either. ** shiver **

I''m with you Deco. Say she gets there and the ring is obviously not as represented. The woman goes on her merry way as does the OP. She gets followed out of the store because they know she has 250 bucks of cash on her and then she gets attacked.

I also keep my car doors locked when I am sitting in it. I should note here that I am from Los Angeles and Deco lives in NYC, so that might have something to do it!!

My Tae Kwon Do used to be excellent (when I was 17) but definitely no longer. I got as high as I could go without testing for a black belt (red belt, 2 stripes). I was too much a chicken when I was a kid to do the blackbelt test because you have to spar against two other black belts. I studied Tae Kwon Do from 11 yrs to 17 yrs old and taught classes.

Betcha didn''t know that about me...I was a cheerleader AND a martial arts expert! ha!

Well, I went.

I walked in the store and a very well dressed lady approached me. She had a huge rock on her hand, too, so I was hopeful. However, while the diamond was larger than a 1/4 carat, it wasn''t a big stone, either. The band had many channel set stones, and I think that is what caused the extra flashes in the photo. The jeweler took a look and said it was a 1/2 carat and and I1...center stone worth about $600. I wasn''t interested anyway, but the slightly larger size and value made her rethink. I suggested that she make make a right hand ring out of it and use the channel set diamonds in the new setting, too.

We both walked away from the transaction happy...she found out that she had a larger stone than she expected and I was able to get some jewelry in for sizing and stay for lunch with my youngest daughter.
