Hello Everyone,

Sorry about the double post, but I am doing so under Miraclesrule''s advice.

Here''s the situation:

It is an online purchase with a good return policy. This will be my combo Christmas and end of year present to myself so I really want it to be awesome. I fell in love with the earrings based on the pictures. However, I am worried because I am still a newbie at this. Please let me know if you see anything wrong. Please also let me if I paid an okay price. I am just really nervous and hoping that I got a great deal. I paid $3600 for the earrings via paypal via credit card. The seller has a ten day return period. I don''t have any IRL pics yet. I am hoping to get them on Monday and I will post my own pics. For now, just one from the seller (unless it is okay for me to post the link to the auction, then there are couple more pictures by the seller).

Here are the stats according to the seller,

GEMSTONE: Two (2) Natural Genuine Untreated Earth Mined Diamonds
CUT: Old Mine Cuts
COLOR: I-J
CLARITY: Internally Flawless – VVS1
CARAT WEIGHT: 2.06ctw

DIAMOND ONE: 1.05ct (Exact Weight) ~ Measures 6.20mm X 6.10mm X 4.1mm

DIAMOND TWO: 1.01ct (Exact Weight) ~ Measures 6.15mm x 6.0mm x 4.0mm I had originally planned to mail them to Mr. Richard Sherwood because I know he is extremely knowledgble about older cuts. However, I am not sure that it would be possible within the ten day window. Would a local jewler/appraiser be okay to confirm the stats? Is that enough?

Again, any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Sorry, here is the picture:

I am not very knowledgeable about OMC stones - although I do think they are very beautiful!

I would definitely contact some local appraisers that could take a look at them for you. It''s always best to get professional advice in a situation like this. If they are not as they have been described, you can think about returning them and making another selection.

Here''s hoping you love them when they arrive! If you don''t, I would return them immediately. At that point, nothing an independent appraiser can say will make a difference to you. No matter what the specs and price, you have to love them!

I almost bid on those. The only thing that stopped me was I have a 2ct OMC pair already. Mine are O color, VS1 (I love that color) and I also got them on Ebay. They were $3300 and when I got them, they were as advertised. I was highly highly tempted to bid on yours there and will be surprised if they aren''t exactly as advertised.

Wow, they look very pretty.

Thank you Missgotrocks and MarcyC. Here''s to hoping the real thing looks like the pictures. If so, I will love them!

Tradergirl, what did you think of the seller pictures? Any inclusions or feathers that I missed? Where are your pictures of your OMC earrings? I would love to see just to get an idea of what I should be expecting. Thank you!

Hi leilei!!

It sounds like you won the auction of a reputable seller. I sure hope so. If you did, you are getting a great deal. Have you been looking for a local appraiser? I''m not sure where you are located so I don''t know if you are able to get them to Richard in the 10-day window. Perhaps you can contact him and arrange for an overnight package. That should give you ample time to have him wave his magic wand over the stones so you can know for sure.

They look beautiful and I can''t wait to see IRL pictures.

Ooooh...

I hope it''s legit, they''re gorgeous!

Hi Everyone,

I received the earrings today. I think they are gorgeous but the color seems to be lower than the advertised I-J. My E-ring is an "I" color stone.I did not see anything with my 10X loop but I am not expecting to see anything for the advertised IF-VVS1. Please take a look and let me know if you see any problems or anything. Thank you. I apologize for my photo skills.

Last one. You can see the color issue that I am talking about in this picture. Note how creamy the stone seems compared to my RB...but they are in a yellow gold setting while my RB is in a platinum setting

Cut matters too. OEC will show more color because of the way they are cut. Your e-ring looks like a modern RB. Color grading is done from the side, through the pavilion and takes no account of the cut of the stone which mainly affects the crown view.

Leilei, we can't reponsibly advise you on the colour as consumer posters, I would suggest taking them to an independant appraiser to find out the facts - definitely see if Rich can help or another appraiser that is nearer. These types of diamonds can also show warmth due to the cutting style, also I didn't see it mentioned but do they have a lab report such as GIA? They do look beautiful though!

Stone-cold, actually, the reverse is true. Old cuts tend to face up whiter than their modern counterparts

Leilei, I second the suggest that you bring the pair to an appraiser that you trust (preferably one who does not sell jewelry too, due to conflict of interest issues) and one who knows antique diamonds.

Having said all that, I think the pair is lovely!

Interesting.

They do look a bit creamier in the pictures, but maybe that's partly the YG tricking the eyes?

Either way they look beautiful, and the creaminess just adds to the old cut charm

Thanks for your comments Stone-cold11 and Lorelei. I just made an appointment with an local appraiser. I would love to go to Rich Sherwood but he''s in FL and I am in VA. In the time frame, I am afraid I won''t make the 7 day period.

I''ll be going to someone I found through the appraiser link from pricescope. She does not sell jewelry and does have an interest in antique jewelry. I am crossing my fingers.

Grace, thank you for chiming in and clarifying. They are lovely but I want what''s advertised...if not, I have some hard decision to make.

Wow leilei, they look beautiful!!

I''m going to be very envious of your find if those stones come back as advertised. Even if they are off a color grade, that is the deal of the season!! I love OMC''s

Wow, they look great to me. Send ''em here if you don''t want them.

Ditto Tradergirl. I thought the same thing.

Thank you yssie

Miraclesrule and tradergirl, I am going to the appraiser in an hour. I am crossing my fingers. I emailed the seller and he confirmed his return policy, and even offer to extend the # of inspection period. We''ll see what the appraiser says. I will report back.

Well I have to say they look lovely! Love that old world look like you are wearing part of history. If they appraise a tad
warmer than the auction said maybe you can get a partial refund on them. I dont think I would give them back

I am waiting next in line if you and the above ladies do not want them. :P

I still think they look great in the photos, but I''m no expert on numbers. Hopefully my response will bump this to the top to get you some attention!

I posted on your other thread yesterday... honestly, whether or not to keep them would depend a LOT on their performance. If they have a big dead zone in the middle I would return them for sure.

If they have a lot of sparkle and fire, then you need to decide if you're OK with the color and clarity discrepancy. The price seems decent still for what they are to me. But there is a BIG difference between I color, IF, and N/O/P VS 1 or 2. It might be too much of a difference to be happy with, even if the price is still OK. I think it is an acceptable retail price- it's just not a fabulous, amazing deal anymore. And that color range is definitely going to show color face up.

If you really want a pair of affordable, 1 ct-ish old cut earrings it might be some time before you found a good performing, well matched pair. Something to consider. But if this was just leaping on a good deal and not something you were specifically shopping for, send 'em back. They're priced OK for what they are, but they aren't a crazy good deal. IMO anyway!

And like I said, to me a lot would depend on their performance, which we can't see obviously. If they're not well performing, get rid of 'em.

Thanks Sonnyjane for bumping my thread.

Littlegreykitten, I am envious of you and your great deals from ebay. Those diamond earrings do perform and I do like them but not at the price I paid. I have emailed the seller asking for his best price. If he refuses, I will ship them back. I am out $240 for the appraisal + shipping though.

I really like them a lot.

Now that you know their specs I'd scour the Internet to try to find out what comparable diamonds sell for.

If you can't find comparable OMCs I'd look up what modern cuts sell for and go from there.

Hope all goes well with the seller. Sending luck your way!
