Toi et Moi setting help—Stuller (Operation Ring Recon)

More thoughts on an anniversary ring for the fall. I’ve been thinking about a three-stone or five-stone, but another contender is a two-stone (both diamond) ring. This would maximize diamond size for the budget. For a simple and inexpensive setting, what do you all think if this? I want the setting to be simple, thin, and on the lesser expensive side so that all of the budget goes to the diamonds.

(Budget is still unknown at this time but will be around $4500, I think).






This one above seems to be pictured with a matching wedding band that I would not buy.







I like this profile shown below—Victorian style prongs. Would .50 diamonds (1.0 ctw) get lost in six prongs? These pics look okay, and I believe they are about .50 diamonds. Stuller also has 4-prong styles, but this one spoke to me.

I really like that second one - I looked at it for my rose cuts except I really want them to sit low to my hand since they’re flat bottomed. I think half carats would look great in that. Would you be open to pre-loved tho? I think you could go bigger if you went that route but I’m not sure if you’re a fan of OECs or want ideal cuts/MRBs?

I’m a big fan of it ALL!

DH and I were talking more about it this month—now I’m leaning more toward one diamond, one ruby. I think rose gold?

Some questions swirling in my brain...
Would the major diamond vendors source rubies for a ring like this? Is this setting really capped at 5mm, or is there wiggle room? Is there a different toi et moi setting somewhere that’s better than this one?

Super ideal MRB or antique oec? AVR?

I’m not picky about origin or heat treatment for the ruby, but I DO want stop sign red without other treatments.

Just thinking out loud here, trying to sort things out. I’ve gone through many ideas for this anniversary ring, and this toi et moi feels like it’s the one! DH and I both love it.

Pre-loved.... hmmm.... I’ve been looking around a bit!

I’d go OEC or AVR for sure - this is such a vintage style that I reckon modern wouldn’t be look right. But also I have a total love of old cuts that I’ll pretty much always vote for them! A ruby would look amazing alongside a crisp white diamond. Or a red spinel if ruby of the right hue is harder to come by?
