Examining some diamonds for a potential client. I think we'd be able to fit a lil snack in this cavity for later eh? :loopy: It's actually an indented natural that deeply penetrates the surface.

This shot taken in darkfield illumination.

This one in reflective lighting. You can also note abraiding on the facet junctions at the table as well as improperly pointed crown bezel (kite) facet.

Two other indented naturals on the crown as well.

These types of surface breaching inclusions on the crown seriously reduces value and compromises structural integrity. :nono:

LOL! One would assume that other than the need for some photos that this was a fairly SHORT evaluation.

NEXT!

Thanks for sharing. This is really interesting and I've wondered about the different flavors of indented naturals. What is the clarity grading?

It looks like a sinking battleship! Very interesting...so how far away can you see the inclusion just out of curiosity?

Overall it's pretty eye clean for an I1. I've seen SI2's with more schmutz. Here's a full shot of it taken in darkfield illumination. Also bear in mind that its a .69ct estate diamond so at this size it's tough to see the inclusions with the eyes. Hand it to my 23 year old son David however and he'd likely see it asap. He has eyes with 10x magnification. ;)) :liar:

Yeah, but you'd probably have to stick to a few M&M's, instead of a regular snack in there.

Hi Rhino

Aren't all feathers surface breaking? I think it's a requirement for a feather to breach surface to be plotted as a feather?

I have seen a lot of diamonds plotted as crystals what would otherwise appear as feathers under a loupe - but they don't extend to the surface.

Cheers

Correct gr8leo87.

There are then 2 questions I want to have answered.

1. Where do the feathers breach? Crown or pavilion?
2. Are they open or healed?

Those answers are important as it will impact value.

Good points and thanks for bringing that up.
