To Upgrade or not

Hi. I log on everyday usually looking at the Show Me The Ring forum. I currently have a .5 RB VS1, G set in a platinum and 18kYG band with baguettes. I am debating whether to upgrade or find a new setting that has some width to it. If I went to some local diamond wholesalers in the Dallas area would it be worth my time to see if I wanted to trade up, start over, or just reset. I know I have read a lot about the setting making sucha a difference, and I believe that. If I upgrade to the max we can afford I would end up with a diamond in a plain cathedral mounting. Whats is your opinion? Would it be worth the visit to the wholesaler?

Both of these settings are very inexpensive. So...which do you think is more important, the size of the stone, or the setting it is in?

That''s really a matter of personal preference. Do you want a bigger stone, or do you just want a more ornate setting??? Most people choose to go for a bigger stone, but then again some are very attached to their stone and go for a more elaborate setting. I would see what kind of deal you could get trading in your stone for a bigger one. But that''s just me.

If you are looking to get an ornate setting such as the two you posted I think that your current stone would look very lovely in those. If you want a simpler setting (i.e. plain solitaire as you mentioned) then I would look into upgrading the actual stone.
