Who cares about what happened in the past??!!

Obviously you do because the Billy Bush tape was years ago.

Um... no... one is a past president. One who was just elected. And even if we ignore the Billy Bush tape..... During THIS campaign, he:

Called Hillary Clinton a "Nasty Woman"
Proposed a ban on Muslims
Made fun of a disabled reporter
Criticized Carly Fiorina's looks
Called anyone and everyone who was not for him horrible names http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/01/28/upshot/donald-trump-twitter-insults.html way too many for me to keep listing...

The guy is a thug. And he was elected THIS week.

It's not just the rapist angle for me. That's heinous enough but it's only one violation of core values. The lying, cheating, disrespect and all his other shortcomings make a total package of abhorrent human being. And on my personal ethical platform, no one in my life gets a 2nd chance if they lie to me. No one. If someone breaks my trust, they might still be a part of my life, but they're forever on probation. Friends and family know this about me; they know I'll always tell the truth and I expect nothing less in return. So Trump forever blew it with me because he is a consummate liar.

I am SO sick of the hypocrisy and the "If Hillary won, we wouldn't be protesting." Oh really? Bullshit. If Hillary won this election, our country would look like a f*@!ing Joe Dirt piñata exploded.

So she should be on that list also. Because it is proven that she lied.

She is Red and so is her husband. I've been consistent all along that I don't like her or trust her. With family and friends, I have the luxury to pick and choose who gets close to me and who doesn't. The repercussions of my decisions are mine alone to bear. On a national level, I have to discern which candidate will get my vote with the knowledge that my choice has larger repercussions. It is difficult to find a politician who isn't a liar and so I depend on the totality of my life experience to make a decision that is never completely comfortable. I don't have to do that in my personal life.

Bernie was my choice because he was the cleanest of the offerings. The irony isn't lost on me that people feared his democratic socialist self-labeling and instead we elected a megalomaniac.

He already started. His handlers gave him back his Twitter access and his first post was how "unfair" it was that people were protesting about him.

This, I believe, is the true DTJ, not the composed and well spoken person I heard yesterday. Instead of accusing them of being "professional protesters", he should be talking about unity and working together in spite of their differences.

Love the fact that the small groups of protesters last night have passion for our great country. We will all come together and be proud!

And here is why we can't just "get over it":

http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astronomy/2016/11/11/trump_s_cabinet_candidates_are_precisely_wrong_for_the_job.html

Get ready for Trump's cabinet candidates...

First up is Sarah Palin. Having lived in AK for a good chunk of years, in her home town area, no less, I can tell you that every Alaskan I know (and the last approval polls support this) despise her. They wish they'd never heard of her. But yes, let's give this failed politician a cabinet post.

Next up, Ben Carson for Dept of Education. Creationist, evolution/Big Bang/climate change denier. But maybe don't worry too much about that because Trump has said he'd prefer to just get rid of the Education department altogether!!

Then is just gets worse from there. Here is a snip from what I linked above:

"As for everything else, it just gets worse. Trump picked Myron Ebell, a climate change denier, to head up his EPA transition team. That’s no surprise, as he had already chosen a climate change denying crackpot, Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-North Dakota), as his energy advisor during the campaign.

Trump, of course, has stated repeatedly that climate change is a hoax (then denied he said it, despite the tweet still being in his timeline). He has said he’ll end all federal renewable energy development, he’ll pull the US out of the Paris climate change agreement, and he’ll kill every environmental safeguard the Obama Administration put into place."

So yeah...I am not just going to get in line with the new regime. My wonderful DH is a veteran and he is so sickened this week. Thinking of how he served his country, only to see this happen...watching such an awful man, with such skewed ideas of women and minorities, zero political OR military experience get elected. My DH is a taciturn type, but stil a very half is glass full kind of guy - it hurts me to see him like this.

Yes, the losing side and all its followers would be crying BS.

But Trump was openly mocked for saying so.

And the guy leading the transition team is from the Family Research Council, one of the most anti-LGBT groups out there.

They want to privatize medicare and privatize social security. Paul Ryan has already said those are some of the first things on the menu.

Getting rid of the national parks and national forests is part of the Republican platform. That appalls me.

Katharath, I know many veterans who are as upset as your husband. Most of my male family members are veterans (and were Republicans up until a couple elections ago, and still voted for many local Republicans up until this election - even for me, this is only the second election I haven't voted for any Republicans). A number of the veterans I know are gay so it is even worse for them.

Red, I wonder what he is paying her. It's obvious the women doesn't get a moments rest. It has to be worse than a mom of twins who just wants to go the bathroom in peace. I'm sure you remember those days well.

Unfortunately the nightmare is only beginning. I so hope he proves us all wrong but I am so doubtful that will happen.

It really disturbs me that with Trump they have to HIDE who he is. Actively. That does not bode well for his tenure as president.

It's not that he's Republican that I mind. I would not feel this way if any other Republican was president. It's that he is vengeful and temperamentally, well, not democracy-minded.

And I dearly hope everyone who thinks everything will be ok keeps their eyes peeled and is going to speak up if journalists, Muslims, other minorities, start disappearing or if it looks like our democratic institutions are not working as they should. Because democracy is a fragile thing, peace is a fragile thing, and it looks like we just elected someone who may not care about either.

Do we think any President before us did not have a different persona in private than he did in public.

From the tapes, Hillary did as well. We all do.

And I am sure his advisers are going to keep him in check.

You are worried that journalists, Muslims, and minorities are going to start disappearing?

My guess? Nothing, like every other service provider he stiffs. I'm sure the legal team is already drafting up the 'bury in legal mire' strategy papers on that as we speak.

It takes very little for a democracy to slide into fascism. All it takes is a leader who doesn't believe in democratic ideals and a few people in the right places going along with him. What I'm asking is for you to believe it is possible and be on the lookout for it happening.

I haven't read this whole thread, apologies in advance if my contribution doesn't make sense in context.

I had to tell myself to get over it.

On Wednesday I went to work (high school teacher) and everyone was in shock, many kids crying and hugging one another. Sadness gave way to anger - how could this happen! the electoral college system is unfair! and then came despair - he will kill the environment! women have been set back a hundred years! I went home feeling worse than I did that morning, which I didn't think was possible.

I decided I'm done wallowing in grief.

On Thursday I went in and told my students ENOUGH. He won fair and square with the rules we have today (same way he avoided paying taxes). If we don't like it it's up to US to do something about it. Sitting around fretting about classmates who grew up here but now might end up being deported before their asylum cases are heard is not going to help anyone. Rather than wallowing and complaining, write a congressman or senator. Realize that these same classmates had to flee countries where that kind of recourse was not possible. Instead of worrying about who got elected president, they lived with the terror of persecution; toughen up.

Arguing, still, about how Trump's lies are worse than Hillary's, blah blah blah is beyond pointless. So is hash tagging "notmypresident." I do not like the man, never did and never will. But I'm a US citizen and like him or not, he IS my president. I believe we collectively get the president we deserve.

Obama never said anything fascist. He never openly admired any dictatorial leaders. Not the way Trump has.
