When I bought my ring, it came in a Halo...
I am just sort of tired of the halo look in all honesty. I am in the process of making decisions on a 3 stone ring, and I find it a bit hard to clean, and I always feel that it never really all the way clean either. So for the new setting I think I am going to go with will have yellow gold basket and prongs, and the side stones will be colorless in white metal. I am a little bit worried about seeing my pear diamond without it''s current yellow shield/cup in which it is resting at the moment.

I just hope that seeing my pear diamond without its backing will not deter me from loving it fully in its glory since I have been used to see it like the way it is for the last year.

I have never seen a W to X stone in her size without any enhancement ( in a shield ). I know that i love really warm stones, but I think to see my pear under a different setting will get some time to get used to...

you all probably think I am ''Doopid or crazy right? I probably am!

I think you''re just going to have to have it unmounted to see. There''s really no other way, since it would be impossible to see a stone of similar color (primary and secondary), size, and cut. The good thing is, if it doesn''t have the same color you love, just have it cupped again in the remount. Nothing gained, nothing lost.

What is a cup?

I thought your pear was in a halo?

Is cup another word for halo?

Do you think the cup enhances the yellow intensity? I love the way lemony presents itself they way you have her!

I always assumed it did enhance the citrus flavor in most yellow stone settings. So I really wonder if you aren''t going to be able to make the decision with out seeing her nekkid?

Are you going to set it at a distance from you? Will it not be convenient to meet her in her natural glory before you decide?

****

I am so glad you posted again about this...as I just found another halo idea for you last week. I hope I can retrace my steps and find it again. It was stunning! It was still a halo, but they used the cup, and then, made a slender line of yellow itty bitty prong set in gold along the center stone (which I don''t believe it was a pear) and then halo''ed in white stones with side stones. The sides were more geometric...I think emerald cut. Anyway, I was looking for the other poster and got sidetracked when I saw that. AMETHYSTE I SCREAMED...but, I don''t think you heard me.

Off to find it...

Kenny it is behind or under the stone (the culet rests in the cup). The halo is around the edge.

Whiteflash made an amazing ring for someone a year or so ago---a yellow asscher Beryl in a brushed gold bezel. have you considered something like that?

Thanks CB.

So if it is not in a cup now what is it in?

How can what''s behind a stone with good light return affect how yellow it looks?

I agree with Uppie, I think you''re going to have to see her without her clothes

and I think you should live with her naked for awhile, i.e., wear her around your house in a stone holder so you can get a good idea of how her color changes in different lights.

You can compare the naked Lemony with your memory of what she looked like in the cup -- there may be some lighting conditions that you don''t notice any difference between the cup and naked, and other lighting conditions where she looks different.

I''d take some time to decide on this, not because I think Lemony will be unattractive without her cup, but because you have the memory of Lemony with the cup, and it may take awhile for the naked Lemony to grow on you. Does that make any sense?

This one strange, nonsensical post for any newbies!

Thank you everyone for your replies...

I don''t think I''ll be able to take the diamond out of the ring and look at it for a while before send it to get made-up. The nice thing about the fact she will be away from me for a while so I might be able to sort of "forget" the daily image of the way she looked...

I have asked several quotes from different vendors and goldsmiths, and the person that I am going to go with, is going to oblige me with many pictures of my pear all by herself, so I can decide if I would like her best without the yellow gold cup ( which enhance the yellow/lemon color of the diamond ) or with one in the new setting.

My impression is that I will most likely love her the way she will be, without make-up ( tee-hee ), I guess the source of my concerns is that this new transformation is a lot of $$$ and a much different look than what it is right now, and I sure hope that it''s going to be all and more than I ever thought of!

PS: After this new setting, this is going to be it for my ring - i will not ( and again I will not ) change her home. So.... yikes! lol

Amethyste: What are your planned side stones?

Either straight trillions or bowed ones.
approximately .70CT each.

May I ask why?

Oh now I remember your earlier thread on the trillions. Just curious--I love your ring as is but I get the need for a change. I had a pave''d setting with huge side stones and had a plain solitaire made...I just got tired of it

Yeah... When I bought the ring, i didn''t really love the setting, but wanted to give it time in case it would grow on me... It didn''t.
I just want a simple setting that will stand wear and tear, there are over 230 pave stones on my setting and I had it fixed several times already... It''s just not practical
for me.

And yes, I do want a change - right now, I am wearing someone else''s likings ( as in the setting ) its just not mine...

I think seeing lemony all by her lonesome is key. Can you not have her unset by a local trusted jeweler and then send her to the jeweler making the setting? That way you can see her in person. Unfortunaltely, you cannot tell much from photos when it comes to color.

As you know, many of us love the way your ring is but I understand that it isn''t you. You have wanted to change the setting for a long time and I know it is a big decision. There really is no way of knowing so just go for it! I can''t wait to see the finished result.

I have been debating over a setting for a long time too. It''s a big choice but unfortunately only we can make the ultimate decision.

Amethyste, can I suggest you see if you can attract Snooper''s attention?

She had an absolutely amazing asscher from Diamonds by Lauren, and I''m pretty sure it was W-X. She had it re-mounted a while ago, in a non-halo setting with a cup, by Leon Mege. I know she did a fair bit of research and put a lot of thought into it, so she might have some helpful insight.

Maybe you can giver her a shout out if you''re interested.

Jen

I think I might send her a shout and see if she replies :)

I will have to probably take the plunge and see what she looks like nakkid :)

Now I am scared to ship this ring across the states... I don''t know what I should do!

Thanks for all of your help! :)
