Just wanted to get everyone''s input on this... I have some beautiful diamond studs that are just over a carat total weight. They are currently martini set but I''ve been dying to bezel them for the last 6 months or so. I haven''t gone to see my jeweler yet to see what it would cost but I know he''d do it very reasonably since I bought them from him originally. I''d want a super thin white gold bezel - does anyone know of a stock setting I could point him to?

Also, I don''t like the look of really big studs in my ears. Is this size stud ok for bezeling? Will it look bulky? I think the bezel will be more comfy and I just love the clean lines of a thin bezel.

Thoughts?

I think it depends on i) how small yr earlobes are and ii) how comfortable you'll be with larger studs.

I personally think 0.50+ct each would be ok for bezelling. I have super thin bezels on my 1ct each and they look just fine, if anything they're still a bit on the smaller size (for me, he he). The bezel is super thin, super light and you can hardly feel them at all, but they do make the studs look a little big larger than 1ct (I'd say they add about 1mm to the diameter), so that helps (for me anyway, I am a real size w****, LOL). For me personally and my HUGE earlobes, I could easily wear 3ct each on each yr (not kidding!!

Can you try some bezelled studs at yr local jewellers to see how they'll look on yr ears and how comfortable you will feel. My best friend has really cute little ears and she says (and I happen to agree with her in fact, surprisingly) that the max she'll be comfortable wearing would be 1ct each (mind you, she used to say that 0.50ct would be just fine on her, so obviouslly DSS has set in for her too, he he).

I think you should try them on first...they have a very different look IMO than martini studs. That way you can make sure you like them first.

I agree. The martini''s make yr studs look lilke they''re "floating" on yr earlobes, whereas bezelled studs are more modern, more clean and you can definitely see the metal, no matter how thin. I like that for an alternate look, as I have several pairs of studs. But it''s all about what YOU want.

I''m not the best person to ask as I LOVE bezels! Check out stuller.com for cheapie (but still good quality) stock settings that every jeweler has access to. Also consider a half bezel, that''s a great look too and not as extreme.

I actually did the opposite - went from bezels on my 1.0 tcw studs to martinis, and to be honest, with my little earlobes, the martinis look much, MUCH better!

Thanks for the great feedback ladies! I almost never see bezeled studs in stores. They''re always either martini or 4-prong baskets. Maybe I''ll ask my jeweler if he has any in his stock (either with the stones in them or just the settings) and take a look. I know I love the look of them on other people!

Any other setting companies to look at other than Stuller?

I don''t have any bezels but I love all the ones that I have seen on this website

here's my thread, with ear shots for size reference: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/handmade-bezel-studs-from-whiteflash.84003/

I guess my ears are average size... never actually compared with anyone though

i really really love my studs, and totally recommend bezels as they are very comfy!

*droooooooooooool*

My vote is for the bezel.

Interesting to note that chickpeas studs are I/J coloured yet they look so white!!!

Phoenix summed it up. . .how small/big are your earlobes? The bigger they are, the larger stones w/a bezel setting you can get away with and still look in proportion and classy. . .I''m a very petite build, yet have super HUGE earlobes and tried on 1 ct per ear and that size looked PERFECT! My DH freaked when I mentioned that!

Spend some serious time finding jewelers w/bezel studs before deciding. Possibly call around to find someone who stocks bezels before driving to any store or ordering any new settings.

chickpea, I think you made my decision a LOT easier. I want those bezels!! Wow your earrings are TDF. Thanks for posting those pics. Good feedback from all of you - I''ll look around for some to try on and make sure I like them. I just don''t know if my local jeweler will be able to order the bezel setting that has the "donut/martini" basket. I"ll have to bring him lots of photos. Wish there was a stock setting somewhere I could point him to but I can''t find one anywhere!

And my earlobes are pretty big (at least I think they are - I have the kind of lobes that are not attached all the way down - don''t know what that''s called, but I''m sure you all know what I''m talking about!)

Anyway, thanks again!

I would totally bezel them, but I''m bezel insane right now. Adwar.com has some fun bezel settings too.

thanks geckodani! I looked at Adwar and they don''t have any settings that are the "bezel donut martini" (how crazy a description is that??).

I currently have martinis and I''ve been on the hunt for some new stones to bezel (I really want OEC''s). I am just obsessed with bezel set studs lately...so of course I say BEZEL THEM!!! Please post lots of pics when they''re done so I can drool and then talk my hubby into some bezel earrings for Christmas!

I hear ya burk! What I''d love to do is bezel these AND get some baby sapphire bezels to match my WF bezeled sapphire "dbty" style necklace. I also have some not-great-quality diamond studs that are about 1/2 carat total weight and are currently basket set (they were my first studs and I''m saving them for my daughter). If they were better quality, I''d bezel those and leave my ideal cut martinis as they are.
