I notice there are quite a bit of garnet lovers on here...I have this one I am not so sure what it is. I know its garnet...but what kind? It has a wine color to it and gives off a reddish/purple hue. Pic was taken in indirect sunlight.

Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure that's a Rhodolite.

It is most likely to be a rhodolite since it is purplish.

Thanks guys! I bought it as a ''grape'' garnet but I have no clue what that is. Never heard of it. I just wanted a garnet. It was one of my first stones when I started collecting.

Wikipedia has a really good, short explanation of garnets here: Wiki - Garnets
These types of garnets are in the "Pyralspite" series and can vary in color from bright light pinks and oranges to deeper reds and oranges. Names like Rhodolite, Malaya and Mandarin are all descriptive names which can have wide color variations within their descriptions. Since Rhodolite sounds much better than "Wine-O-Lite" you might as well call it Rhodolite. That one has very nice color...good choice !

Pretty stone.

Really lovely....any plans for it?

Nope, its sitting in a jar still.

I''d call it rhodolite too. It looks like a lovely color and nice stone.
