This is a rather specialized question so may not be of interest to most, but I''m about to order a Titanium wedding band (picture below but in brushed finish) and wonder if anyone has any thoughts on aircraft grade 6/4 versus the slightly stronger aircraft grade 6/2/2 upgrade?

The 6/4 Ti is already many times stronger than gold or platinum while the 6/2/2 Ti is slightly (around 30% I think) stronger still. There is no difference in scratch resistance so I am wondering whether a Titanium alloy that is slightly harder than an already very strong Titanium alloy is worth the additional cost?

I can''t help but wonder whether this is a luxury upcharge for someone who has to have the very best but in reality there would be no discernable difference in dent/ding resistance during the life of the ring. In other words, isn''t it unrealistic that one would be able to ding a 6/4 titanium ring anyway? By the way, I would normally be one who would want only the best for this already inexpensive purchase but if there is no real benefit and the ring might be slightly easier to cut off in case of emergency then I''m happy to go with the non-upgraded aircraft 6/4 grade...

Any thoughts? Any titanium ring wearers who faced the same question?

Thanks!
David

We looked at titanium rings as he is an engineer and loves all thing metal. However we were nervous becuase the jeweler told use that if we ever hurt our fingrs (hiking car accident) and the ring had to be cut off that they couldnt put it back together. I dont know if that is an issue for you, but it is something to consider.

Hi Matatora,

Thanks for the reply. That wouldn''t be an issue for me. I don''t think I''ll be too sentimental about the band itself so in that extreme case I wouldn''t mind buying an identical replacement (especially at the reasonable prices!)

Thanks,
D.
