You are so lucky you know how to fix it. Take credit for that. The repair bill (if they were able to fix it) would have been at least half of the value.

I think that you had the know how to fix it, so you should keep it. Since they damaged it one time, they would probably damage it again. Keep it and do whatever you want with it.
