Tinkie has cancer :-(

Thank you everyone! Tinkie is doing well today. As always, no symptoms. We have to drive pretty far with her tomorrow, so I hope she doesn't get too stressed in the car. Our appointment is at 9:40am, so I'll be back with an update tomorrow afternoon. Keep sending that DUST!!!

Got another call from the vet at Anti-Cruelty tonight. He wanted to know how things went with the oncologist yesterday, so I told him about everything. I asked if he had received my fax (I figured that's why he was calling) with the invoices, and he said he hadn't yet, but that it's possible that it just hasn't been put in his mailbox yet. He's going to call me tomorrow morning to let me know if he received it, and if not, I will send it again on Monday. I did tell him the plan for tomorrow and that there would be more invoices coming his way as a result. He seemed genuine, but it kind of bothered me a bit when he asked me to ask the surgeon tomorrow (after the MRI) if he believes the cancer was present 3 months ago. He said "just for his peace of mind", but it sounded more like a CYA move on his part to ensure that they don't have to compensate us. :nono: Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but time will tell.

In other news...she is still following me around like a little shadow. We hang out on the couch and if I get to go to the bathroom or to the kitchen to get something to drink she immediately jumps down and follows me. I absolutely love that about her! She also has a habit of sitting in our hallway in a position that allows her to see me on the couch and DH in the kitchen. It's her "sweet spot" where she can keep an eye on both of her humans!

I cant stop thinking about you and sweet Tinkie. I will be with you tomorrow, in spirit, sending bucket loads of *Dust*. I'm happy that Tinkie has you. I, too, am having anxiety dreams about my own cats. Just know that whatever you decide, once you get the results, is the right thing for you and Tinkie. Just love her, love her, love her.

I had a lower jaw reconstruction and the recovery was very long, very painful and very difficult. It was worth it and I would do it again. But I am not a cat, though I probably have been in every past life. I love them more than breathing - and that includes your precious Tinkie. Good luck tomorrow.

Typing this on my phone, so forgive any errors. Tinkie's MRI showed best case scenario. The tumor is small and localized to her jaw. We made the decision to go ahead with surgery, so she is in surgery now to have a portion of her lower jaw removed. The surgeon is confident that he can get it all out. We feel really good about this decision. We are, of course, still waiting on the special stains, to determine if its a carcinoma or a sarcoma, which will help us determine if she'll also need chemo and/or radiation.

I will keep you all posted. And I will also comment on my other thread later regarding my annoyance with the jeweler. To put it simply, she is refusing to give me a refund, so I will be pursuing a dispute through the Custom Made website. Grrr....

YAY!! hooray for BEST CASE SCENARIO!!! :appl: :appl: :appl:

I'm so happy this is turning out FAR better than expected!! YAY!! I guess the magic of all that PS dust came thru for you!!!

Indeed, that other vet does seem to have a tone of "CYA-ism" to his comments.... hmmm.... I'd stay arms length with that guy.

(((HUGS))) it all goes uphill from here on in!! Yay Tinkie!!

Such wonderful news!!!!!!!!! Hoping it goes as well as predicted and keeping you all in my thoughts!!!!

FANTASTIC NEWS!!

:appl:

I hope they can get it all out and she recovers smoothly, and the results come back quickly!!!

Yes!!!!!! Awesome!!!! Go to Tinkie go!!! You can do this! Yayyyy!!!!

Fantastic news!!! I'm so happy to hear this positive update! Keeping Tinkie in my thoughts and hoping for smooth sailing - Keep us posted as to how she's doing! Yay for Tinkie! :appl: :appl: :appl:

Just checking in to see how the girl is doing.

I've been checking this thread all day - this is the best news!!! Yay for confident surgeons! Continuing to send *dust* to Tinkie (and you).

She is out of surgery, awake, and doing great! They are going to keep her overnight and if she is able to eat tomorrow she can come home! :appl: :appl: The surgeon said when he went in he saw exactly what he expected to see based on the MRI. He's confident that he got it all out - about 1-1.5" of her lower jaw. We were really concerned about her appearance, and of course her ability to eat, but the surgeon said that the location of the tumor and the portion that was removed was in the best spot, rather than being further forward or further back, so we feel better about that. He said he thinks we'll be pleased with her appearance. I am a little nervous to see her tomorrow. My biggest fear is that she's going to think that we've abandoned her. Poor girl has been through so much these past 6 months - being dropped off at the shelter, getting spayed there, sitting there in a cage for 2 months, coming home with us, having to get used to a new home and a new brother, having a tooth removed, and now this. My heart just aches for her. She is such a sweet little girl and we love her like nobody's business!

And THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for your thoughts, prayers, and dust. PS dust is amazing. You all are amazing! We truly do appreciate your support during this very difficult time! :appl:

Oh this is so awesome! We're thinking of you Tinkie! You're going to be just as beautiful as ever and we are so glad you're OK. :appl:

I'm SO happy to hear this update!!! :appl:

Reading your post about how it was caught early, how you went immediately for a second opinion and now have (touch wood) had her treated to cure her...there's no doubt in my mind that 1. Tink is one lucky little lady and 2. there's no doubt in my mind that you and your DH were brought into her life for a reason...to save her. Much love and kitty healing dust to your little family. 8)

They called me at 9:00am to say that Tinkie is doing really well! She doesn't appear to be uncomfortable unless they really press on the part of her jaw that was removed. They told me "She really loves having her face scratched" and I said "Yes, she does!" It's her favorite thing in the world, and they are encouraged that she is allowing them to to do that to her so soon after surgery. She isn't, however, eating for them. She doesn't seem nauseous, just not interested in what they are offering her. They are offering wet food, obviously, but she is VERY particular about her food and will only eat hard food. I tried baby food, wet food, even tuna! after her tooth extraction 2 weeks ago and she wasn't interested. So, I am not surprised that she is not eating. I did bring them some of her food yesterday, to offer to her, but they said they don't typically allow cats to eat hard food right after surgery. I don't think she's going to eat anything else, honestly, so they said they are comfortable with her coming home today! :appl: We'll be picking her up at 3:15pm. I am so excited to see her and love on her! She's such a tough little munchkin!

I can't wait to get her home and back into an environment where she feels safe. We've been telling Peanut that his sister is coming home, and that she may look a little funny, but he is NOT to make fun of her. LOL

So glad everything went well and she can come home, what great news! :appl: Give her some extra hugs and pets for me - and when you get a chance let us know how she's doing.

She's HOME!! :appl: And she looks really well, considering she just had part of her jaw removed. Here are some pics:

She has a Fentanyl patch for pain that will be removed on Wednesday. She is trying to eat, but still having a hard time. She is not interested in wet food, so I crushed up some of her hard food and added some FreshPet Vital to her bowl since it's softer, but she seems to really only be able to lap up the CatSip.

We tried to put the e-collar on her to prevent her from pawing at her face, but that didn't go over well. She's fastidiously grooming herself now and we're going to keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn't rip her sutures out. You can sort of see from the pics where she is shaved on the right side. They did an amazing job of maintaining her appearance, I think. I think that once her fur grows back you won't even to be able to tell she had surgery.

She made lots of friends at the Vet Specialty Center and everyone loved her  She's such a sweet little love bug, so I'm not surprised.

We have to go back in 10-14 days to have her sutures removed and hopefully by that time we'll have the biopsy and special stain reports that will tell us whether she is done with treatment or will need chemo and/or radiation.

Thank you again for all your continued thoughts, prayers, and dust. We ALL appreciate it so much!!!

Yay!!!! Oh she looks so great!! I'm soooo happy she's home!!!!

Wow she looks great!!! :appl: So glad she's home and getting lots of love, what a sweetie-pie!

:appl: Go Tinkie! go tinkie! :appl:

You all are so sweet!!! She is a super cat, and I'm hoping she beats the odds and lives a long, healthy and happy life with us! :appl:

LM! I was coming it to get a TInkie update and so much has happened in the last day or so! I am SO GLAD they were able to operate and remove it, and that it was the best case scenario for her. Amazing! Best wishes for a speedy recovery for Tinkie! :appl: :appl: :appl:

She looks great! I'm betting her odds are great since you caught it so early. She is a lucky, lucky girl! I'm so happy she is home.

Somehow, I missed this thread until this evening. She looks great! Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery, Tinkie. :-)

Whoa....so DH and I were hanging out in the kitchen with Tinks tonight, because she doesn't seem to want to be away from her food, even though she hasn't quite mastered how to eat it yet....and I took a little video of her (I tried to upload to YouTube earlier but was having password problems.) In the video, I saw 2 orbs (one large, one small) pass by. I saw them on my camera screen but not in real life. So..of course I went back and reviewed the video..and they there were. DH, who is a total non-believer in this sort of thing, even said "I have no explanation for that".

I would like to believe that it is EQ''s spirit. I really would. There have been a few other weird things that have happened in this kitchen, so I don't quite know what to believe right now. I have told DH for months that we have a ghost, but he always laughed it off. When he saw the video tonight, he said "I can't explain that".

I hope you all don't think think I'm weird. This really happened tonight. If I could figure out how to upload video here I would. Anyone wanna hep me with that?

Wonderful news! Yay!

Tinkie looks great. I hope the stains come back with the best possible news and she has many happy years of pampering and love.

LM!! I think that is soooo cool!! if EQ is there to help watch over Tinkie - that would be amazing!! oh, I hope that 's the case- at least that's what I'm going to hold onto as my thought tonight... That is awesome. As creeped out by that kind of thing as I normally get, somehow , in this instance, it just seems so reassuring.

All the best wishes to Tinkie to get past today and the next few days and just bounce back into 'normal life' ASAP!! And EQ, if you are here to help --- THANK YOU!! :halo:

I am late to this thread but just wanted to send Tinkie and you guys lots of hugs and PS dust ..and am keeping you all in my prayers.

She certainly is a very cute girl.

ETA: that's very neat re EQ. I believe there's another world out there besides the one we live in.

:wavey: LM!!! Any luck uploading that video??? I was thinking about it all night long - I hope you can remember your password, I'd love to see it!

When I get creeped out about that sort of thing, I always spin it that my grandmother would ALWAYS be there to look after me. So, hoping that's what's happening here too - someone special is looking out for your new furbaby!
