Yayaya, I got enough tax return to start looking at making my first diamond purchase. I want earrings first, and then a pendant.

I am stuck between martini or 4 prong round diamonds. I don''t know where to begin, but I want the best deal . Many of the settings I saw at whiteflash seemed to have a tall setting that may protrude to omuch from my ears. Has anyone had a prblem with that?

I had to have a benign tumor removed from my left parotid gland in 1995 so it makes my ears not completely even. So I would need a nice size to eliminatine any emphasis on that. I also have fat earlobes. I think.

Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated. I dont'' know diddly about specs except for the few months I lurked and actually came out of hiding due to my daughters wedding. I have tried to educate myself, but it is all so overwhelming.

So, I put this out there for the experts for advice.

yay! im excited for you and congrts on your daughter wedding! i personally like the martiny setting it is so cute!

i cant wait to see the eye candy when you buy your jewels!

Depending on the effect of the surgery you had, you might want to consider dangling, longish earrings which bring the eyes of others away from your ears and to the bright and sparkly diamonds in the earrings instead. I prefer the way low, 4 prong settings work with stud earrings although I see many martini settings that people seem to like.

miracles, will these be a one time purchase, or do you think you will be upgrading? Also, I have the martini setting from WF and I don't think they stick out the back too far. I have slept with them in on occasion, and never got jabbed. And if you think your lobes might be a bit thicker, that would help in that area anyway.

If you can give us a budget for the stones, we'd love to help! Also, are you ok with the lower colors? They really do face up a nice white when well cut, and would allow you to go bigger.

That is a great idea from OldMiner, brings to mind the lovely Inspiration - AL danglers which could be a gorgeous choice!!

Maybe, but if they are uneven enough, it might be more noticeable. My ears are naturally uneven, and it''s something that keeps me from really considering Al''s earrings, which I absolutely adore. I don''t notice it with my studs like I do when I wear danglies.

Just my own experience....

Al''s would be pretty but if you can wear Martini 3 prong those are sooooo comfy and beautiful; I am glad Ellen and Diamondseeker helped me figure out those are the best for me. hehe

Probably a few of us!

I personally prefer the martini style of those that you mentioned. They really highlight the round shape of the stone and you can barely see the prongs. If you ask them to set the stones low, they won''t stick out very much. They also have a handmade version that are more delicate and less chunky that cost quite a bit more though.

Woohoo, I can''t imagine a more fun way to spend your refund check!!

*sheepishly raises hand*
Well, I wasn''t born with them uneven, but I flinched when I was getting the right one pierced, and so the hole on the right is oblong and earrings sit lower on the right than left.

I dont' know that they are uneven, although my eyewear would lead you to come to that conclusion.

More obvious is the fact that since they had to remove the left side of my face to get the tumor out, my left ear lflares back more so that any earring on my right ear faces forward, while the left side leans laterally. It's annoying. But I am sure I can find a pair that won't make it noticable.

Upgrading...that sounds like a good thing!!

I do like the idea of going and trying some on. Do they let people try on diamond studs?

I'm getting all excited just thinking about them.

Yes, they let me try them on; maybe bring in a baggy alchol and cotton ball? hehe

That''s a good idea. Bring in my own towelettes. I mean, who wants to pay a boatload of money if they haven''t even tried something on. Unless someone else is buying it for them.

But that''s not likely to happen. I really wanted to buy them for my daughter and then i thought, wth? Momma''s turn.
