Do you have good time management skills? Do you feel you get everything you need to get done done in the time you defined? Can you share your time management secrets?

At work, how much time do you spend on social networking and blogging sites? I am starting a new job next week and have been off work for about 2 weeks now and I think it is best to just focus on work, but there always seems to be so many internet distractions LOL. How do you get it all done and keep up with everything? ie cooking, cleaning, working, exercising, socializing, news, shopping, etc, etc.

Please share. Thanks.

I love lists. I make lists and tables for everything. There is so much satisfaction when you get to "check" something off!

Prioritizing tasks and eliminating distractions is crucial.

I was just discussing that I need to get on some sort of schedule with the house stuff. Monday Vaccuum, Tuesday clean the bathroom etc.... maybe my place would stay cleaner!

I have a house work schedual, but never follow it! lol Time management isn''t my thing. Right now here I am on PS when I have a huge list of errands to run AND my kids get out of school early so I hardly have any time.

Lists really do help, however, so I make a daily list of things to do and tend to get those done.

Trying to keep up with everything while working is challenging, but being at home is just as challenging because there isn''t anyone keeping tabs on what is being done. As long as the dishes and laundry are done plus some sort of evening food is cooked, my DH doesn''t seem to notice anything else.

I am very good at time management I would say. I don''t know that there are too many secrets though. I do like to follow the "one touch" approach. I.e., if something comes across my desk that I can take care of right then and there, I do. Then it''s done. Same with emails.

As for all the social stuff online, quite frankly I think when you are at work you should be working 95% of the time. Restrict yourself to checking your non-work email, PS, whatever once an hour or something reasonable like that. Once you get better at managing your time you can lay off the restrictions a bit more.

Another thing that works is focusing on only 1 project for a limited amount of time, but really focusing, then moving on to the next thing.

I''m pretty good at time management. I think of spending time socializing or online as a reward for getting the stuff I need to get done done on time, and I only do it if there really is time to do it. Also, there are some tasks that I know I will complete better at home, and I allow myself to take a little break as long as I make sure the stuff I take home really does get done. There are days when I work through the whole day without really taking a break if I need to, and there are days like today where I''m caught up and can spend a good half hour playing online.
