walked in to tiffany''s today to get the gf a bday gift and noticed every diamond shining to the point i need my sunglasses, do they use special lighting? because i have seen diamonds with excellent gia cuts just not shining like that...... im confused. out of curiosity i inquired about a diamond and found 9 grand gets u a .72 G cut.... UGHH

Yes, they do use special lighting. I''m also sure that they take great care in keeping their diamonds clean. I have an ideal cut 1.5 round brilliant and it looks the same as theirs except for the fact that my ring has scratches on it for everyday wear. I have heard complaints on this site from the quality of cut from Tiffany''s so I''m sure if you do your homework you can find a stone as lovely as theirs and even quite possibly more sparkly

Hi S2K, I just want to clairfy a bit on what I feel regarding what heraanderson wrote above.

I would venture to say that Tiffany''s outsells online percisely because the quality of their diamond cuts.
Their lighting is not magical, but simply the surroundings are more dramtic. Walk into any jewlery store of estimable value and you will see the same lights. Michael C. Fina, Fortunoff, Cartier, all of them have it.

But if you want a specific cut with specific angles that satisfy the criteria posters here feel makes a super ideal diamond, then you are in the right place. Again, Tiffany''s cuts are the top 10% of the market, if not better. Pricescope may have the top 1% of that market.

It''s your call if you want the top 10% with an unreproduceable setting, or a quality setting with the highest 1% cut diamond. But I never blame Tiffany and their diamond criteria as below standard, because most people here have not seen what exists in the majority of the industry based on volume or marketability. Also, at the high volumes Tiffanys sells their stones, even getting the 10% of the market is an achievement in itself at their sacrifice for quality AND quantitiy enough to satisfy the highest demand for diamonds on the market at the highest level of quality.

FYI: Walmart has the highest volume of diamond sales and I don''t think their diamond standards compare to Tiffany & Co. Just something to keep in perspective, which I think many people tend to lose sight of.

Like all Jewellers, Tiffany and Co hide the light of their diamonds under a bushell.
:-)
