Tiffany ring registration number?

I''m sorry if this question has been answered before. I tried a search but could not find the information I was looking for.

I was wondering what the registration numbers on a Tiffany engagement ring actually mean. The numbers start with "D" and look something like "DXXXXX". I know the "D" itself stands for Diamond, but what do the other numbers mean?

The registration number is just a number that Tiffany''s uses to identify it''s diamond. Similar to a GIA or AGS certificate no.
