Hello all,

New post, 1st and only proposal coming up. I am already set on T&Co so don''t even try :)

My max max price is $8,000. But I would prefer to be $7,500 after taxes (in AZ) to put a payment on an insurance plan if she says yes (which I am 99% sure she will).

So I am planning on getting this:

Round Brilliant, tiffany setting, H color, VS2 or VVS2, and .75ct or higher.

My question is: Can you really tell the difference in VS2 and VVS2 by the naked eye? I heard that all that matters is the size when you''re walking around with the ring. Also, for my price range, if I got a VS2, H color, Round Brilliant in the traditional setting what is the largest .ct that I could get?

Am I missing anything with the ring? I''ve heard that you can''t pick the quality of cut from tiffanys... (ideal, etc.).

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hardly ever, I strongly suggest dropping clarity to VS2 in order to get the most bang for your buck at Tiffanys.

By the way, what really matters is the cut quality. Well cut diamonds will outshine and outsparkle larger poorly cut diamonds in a heartbeat! Do some reading about cut before heading to tiffanys, because not all of their diamonds are cut to high standards although most do seem to be well-cut there.

I would suggest looking at whiteflash or pearlmans if you''re not totally set on Tiffany''s. You can get much more of a stone for your money. Also, the most important thing to look for is a good cut (ideal, excellent, etc...) Read some more on PS about color and clarity

so what cut am I looking for? Since VS2 is just as good as VS1 (for human eye visual purposes), what would be the acceptable cut level?

And thanks for the advice :)

You can pick the cut at tiffany, just give your spec to the SA, she will find a few within your req.
Tiffany stones are all EX cut (mostly GIA cert). But last time I run 7 stones from tiffany in HCA once.
4 under HCA2; 1 between 2 and 3; 2 above 3. So you need to spend sometime to make sure.
Tiffany has H&A, but you need to look for them yourself, take time to.

How about this from Signed Pieces? It is well within your budget, and an original Tiffany piece with papers and box.

NICE. And below budget at 6,200!! I''d go for that one. And then get her a nice WF diamond bangle with the $$ saved. (Can you tell I want one of those freaking bangles...lol).

so.... why are the rings cheaper through them? Are these used rings? and what kind of return policy do they have?

Yes, they are pre-owned. Their policies are quite good. I would advise you to read them on the site yourself, so that you can get it direct from the horses mouth so to speak.

hehe, could you explain a bit further... I know that GIA is a certification company/organization.

Antifreze, I''m no expert. VS2, VS1, etc are clarity.

A lot of people on here say that you can get into the SI range as long as the diamonds are "eyeclean", meaning that you can''t see inclusions without a loop (magnifier). You''d have to ask the jeweler if the stone is eyeclean if you decide to go to the SI range. VS2 is a safe bet.

oh yeah!!! It is well under budget, I read the top price instead of the bottom one, how fabulous!!!!!! If you just absolutely HAVE to buy from tiffanys, you should really consider buying second hand from signed pieces. You get all of the perks and the blue box experience and they make sure the ring is in new condition, without the budget ripoffs.

kcoursolle, the SP ring is $6250.00. Isn''t the budget $8K max? There might even be a chance of no sales tax if shipped out of state. But I just saw the OP wants to keep to H color and under. This one is an I.

they are usually second hand but you can have them polished and get new documentation for the ring at tiffany''s. there are a few pricescopers who have purchased tiffany rings through them and it''s a great way to get the desginer name without paying the designer price. they have a 30 day return policy i believe.

nclrgirl, you are absolutely right. But Tiffany doesn''t carry SI clarity diamonds. The lowest they go is VS. And I believe the OP wants an authentic Tiffany ring for his lady.

Oops! We posted at the same time. Great minds and all that

I appreciate the link, but I think I want to buy a new one from a store. If this was the 2nd ring I was buying, I would be all about saving. But this will be the 1st and only time I propose to the person I want to spend the rest of my life with. I want something that was made and bought for her.

Now I just need to research different tiffany cuts.

But you guys think if I went with round brilliant, tiffany setting, H color, VS2 - that I could get a .75+ ct for about $7500?

Simple! go to a tiffany store, tell the rep what do you want and your budget.
she can pull a list of rings from the PC.
In my case, she pulled 10 to 15 of them.
I look at the specs (on hee PC screen), and ask she to bring a few that I liked to the store.
It took her 1-2 days to get them. And I finish my research (HCA) at the same time.
Go back to store, everything looks great, done deal....

I think $7500 is good enough for the .75ct @ tiffany. I got our first ring from them .86 G VS2 for $7000.

Something that you need to look for on the certificate:

depth - 60 - 62%

table - 54 - 58%

crown angle -shallower 34 - 35%

pavillion angle - shallower 40.6 - 41

Before we got our ring from Tiffanys, I emailed them our budget and they sent me specs on different rings. I went with an I in colour and it''s very white. I would have gone for a VS if they had one in, but we went with VVS2. I would definitely let them know your budget and what size etc you''re aiming for and they can order some in from other stores if they don''t have any in the store that you''re shopping. Best of luck!

if i were going to buy a round from tiffany, *I* would have them bring in stones with the following specs posted below. also, you may want to purchase and ideal scope to take with you as well. everything is going to look amazing in the store so having these numbers as a guide along with an idealscope, you''ll be sure to find the cream of Tiffany crop. Tiffany sells the top 10% of well cut diamonds, pricescopers are really picky and like stones that fall in the top 2%, you can get those from Tiffanys if you want. Do keep in mind that Tiffany doesn''t sell poorly cut stones so really you can''t go wrong even if you went in and bought whatever they have there in the store.

table: 54-57%

depth: 60-62%

crown angle: 34-35

pavilion angle: 40.6 to 41.0

girdle: thin, medium, or slightly thick

I totally agree with this advice. I''d then take the specs of the stones that they bring in and filter them through the HCA just as another precaution and to weed out some more stones. And I LOVE that you want to buy a ring that is just for her!!

Piece of advice from one guy to another... The most important thing to your GF is the size of her stone... Get the best-cut, biggest diamond you can for your budget... Excel diamonds makes a dead on Tiffany replica... You can get over 1ct for your budget.

Grab this:
http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-636618.htm

with this:
http://www.exceldiamonds.com/-Engagement-Rings-5/Classic-Diamond-Engagement-Ring-640.html

and buy this:

problem solved.

Don''t think that''s true for all girls. Personally I much prefer my ring that I got from Tiffanys rather than getting a bigger ring, and we could have got much bigger going elsewhere. I''m sure he knows what his gf would like.

Sorry, its true for MOST girls... (OK, before people start kicking and screaming, yes its a gross generalization, let it be)...

Anyhow, OP has 5 posts and was confusing cut and clairty, so clearly he needs some educating on the subject (and he came to the right place)... that being said, he''ss never mentioned what his GF wants? Has she told him that she "simply must have a Tiffany band" or is she like half the population that has no idea about pricing information from T&C and they absurd markup... (listen, this is coming from someone who just shelled out $$ for an authentic T&C eternity band)...

ask yourself this: if you put a .75 T&C and 1.2 ACA set in a SC Tiffany replica in front of your gf and told her nothing about the rings, where they''re from etc... which do you think she''d choose?

Triple agree :) I also agree about getting yourself an Idealscope and taking those numbers with you when you find a couple within your budget you like post the numbers here and we will help you pick the best one

I personally could not tell the difference between a VS1 and a VS2 :)

Good luck

No, I have VS1 and there''s no way a T&Co VS2 would have visible inclusions. I checked and double checked. They only had VS1 but I would have gone VS2 no prob. As to your budget, better call them for pricing and grading.

Am I missing anything with the ring? I''ve heard that you can''t pick the quality of cut from tiffanys... (ideal, etc.).

You most certainly can pick the quality. They will show you as many stones as you want. In my experience, they were extremely forthcoming w/ the specs.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
